Ta Da!

Five months after the start of Year Two's contract and six weeks after the School Board voted on a salary increase, Dr. Steinhauer's 2010-2011 Goals have finally been posted on the MTLSD website.

1. Fiscal Management - The Superintendent will operate the District in a fiscally responsible manner, identifying cost savings and revenue generating opportunities.
2. High School Project – The Superintendent will continue the District’s efforts to build/renovate the High School.
3. Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) – The Superintendent will implement the terms of the new teacher CBA.
4. Strategic Plan – The Superintendent will guide the District in making progress toward meeting or exceeding all goals established by the current Strategic Plan. In addition, the Superintendent will position the District to begin development of a new strategic plan during the 2011-2012 school year.
5. Student Achievement – The Superintendent will implement measures to improve student achievement.
6. Technology – The Superintendent will direct an assessment of the District’s technological capabilities.
Superintendent Goals 2010-2011
The High School Renovation Project comes in at Number Two.  Oh yeah, Student Achievement is Number Five.  Does Number Six mean there is spell check in our future?  Not that a school district should need spell check...

  1. A quality school district should not need spell check but consider the Board spent over $40,000 to buy computer software to process Right-To-Know requests . Why not buy spell check first?

Then consider the recent school play program did not list the president or the vice president of the board in the program at all, misspelled two board members’ last names, and then misspelled Horseman (sic) Dr.

Spell check will help to correct the many spelling, grammar, and spacing errors on the web pages but it won’t improve the quality of the students or employees who can’t list the board members correctly.

These facts beg the questions of staff competency and the need to replace personnel who do not exemplify Mt. Lebanon’s standards and expectations. I do not see this listed as a goal that the Board set for the Superintendent.

  2. The so-called "goals" are a bunch of *softballs*....goals, by definition, are measurable objectives or intended end results. Most of the posted "goals are neither measurable nor particularly challenging.

Did the SB sign off or approve of these ? They are of a type that would never fly in the private sector ranks of CEO's or COO's unless the Boards of Directors were stooges of the CEO's or COO's .......ahaa, maybe thats a possible explanation ?

  3. Wonder if the recently mailed school district survey will impact any of the goals?
Wouldn't it be logical to complete and analyse the survey responses then set the goals! Just asking.

  4. Yes indeed, Dean....it reminds me that the District leadership is behaving in a manner similar to that described in the age old military expression " Ready, Fire, Aim !"
