2009-10 Goals
Media coverage: Mt. Lebanon hires Steinhauer as superintendent
Hired with no experience as a superintendent.

2010-11 Goals
Media coverage: Superintendent gets a 4.5% increase

2011-12 Goals
Media coverage: Mt. Lebanon superintendent to get a 3.5% raise

  1. Seems to be a pattern here - Superintendents 2010-11 Goals.

    "1. Fiscal Management - The Superintendent will operate the District in a fiscally responsible manner,
    identifying cost savings and revenue generating opportunities.

    So we arrive at budget discussions for dealing with a possible $2.9 budget hole in 2012-13 and what is the proposed answer: Hire a PR/Fund Raising Firm to do a feasibility study on fundraising possibilities for $41,000.

    Hmmm, not bad, roll the dice for a lousy $41K for a "possible $30 million" windfall. Makes sense if you love to shoot craps. But then we have...

    Cut one of the oldest co ed sports teams. Discuss closing a school, cutting staff and eliminating programs. All for the kids and maintaining MTLSD's high profile.

    Then we won't even mention this goal. (much LOL)

    "#4. Strategic Plan – The Superintendent will guide the District in making progress toward meeting or exceeding all goals established by the current Strategic Plan. In addition, the Superintendent will position the District to begin development of a new strategic plan during the 2011-2012 school year."

    And the answer is - hire a $15,000 strategic plan facilitator.

    I suspect this is all very hard work finding ways to spend money you don't have. Of course, its all Gov. Corbett's fault. More LOLs.

Do not overlook the fact that the Super was also given (1) a 1-week additional vacation, (2) he and the Admin staff work only a 4-day week, 8-hr. days for at least 6-7 weeks during the summer, (3) his private parking space on Horsman is marked "24 hours/day", while prior Supers were for just school days/hours (no one has seen him burning the midnight oil or on weekend hours on site), and (4) best of all, his private crapper in his new office in the new HS...there is also a separate mens room in the new Admin offices, but no men except him.

    Yeah, times are tough, and there is this pesky set of goals to meet.

  3. And the District will buy back unused vacation days. But it is ALL Corbett's fault. Oh yeah, and the cranks, the fear mongers, the disingenuous, the tired, the poor, and the huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
    School Board is not to blame for the mess we are in.

  4. Will Mount Lebanon follow the lead of New York and Los Angeles?

    New York has become only the second city in the country where teachers’ names and ratings have been publicized. In 2010, The Los Angeles Times published its own set of ratings, in spite of fierce opposition from the local teachers’ union. Thousands of people flocked to the newspaper’s Web site to check the rankings, though, and Arne Duncan, the United States education secretary, praised the effort, saying, “silence is not an option.”
    The rankings stem from a desire by policy makers to find an objective way to distinguish between effective and ineffective teachers, untainted by the subjective judgment of individual evaluators, like school principals.
