Feasibility study, naming rights, donations, budget, assessments...

As you might have read the legal notice in Thursday's paper, there will be a special meeting on Monday at 6:30 to discuss a feasibility study for a capital fundraising campaign at Jefferson Middle School concerning the high school renovation.

Monday's School Board meeting agenda is packed with items.  The Board will discuss revisions to three policies:

Also very important topics up for discussion are the 2012-2013 Budget, property assessments, the feasibility study discussed previously, and community field use.

  1. Of course residents will pass on attending the school board meeting choosing instead to grumble amongst themselves about how unfair the assessments are.

Oblivious to the fact that their tax bills wouldn't be skyrocketing if the school board were fiscally responsible.

Sure climb on the board's band wagon and blame Gov. Corbett and Harrisburg. Trouble is they're short money too so you'll still get hit with a bigger tax bill in the end.

  2. I will not be recording Tuesday's commission meeting because as much fun it is to go to the commission meeting, I will be celebrating my birthday elsewhere. Unfortunately, David Huston's mother shares the same birthday, so he cannot record it for me. David will be going to work early on Monday, so that he can record the special feasibility study at 6:30.

  3. Has anyone actually read their defintiios of "terroristic threats"? I've seen terrorism and this list isn't even close. And if the board actually chooses to adhere to this nonsense, then they are actually guilty. For example, under examples of terrorsitic acts:

"Intimidation. Intimidation is an act intended to frighten or coerce someone into
    submission or obedience."

I've read through their Orwellian and unconstitutioal guidelines. If a child gets in a fight at school or flips someone the bird, they are guilty of terror. This is ridiculous. What about little Johnny who is in AP everything, plays a dozens sports and is bucking to go to Annapolis? Oh, yeah, Johnny, remember in 2013 when you were in 10th grade, and you and that other kid were in a shoving match in the hallway? Um, yeah, you're a terrorist so forget about college. Here, grab a shovel and help complete the school...Oh, and since we're so qualified to label someone as a terrorist, you're now on a national watch list so you can't fly or leave the country. Geez, if only you'd been more sensitive and compliant like the rest of the community.

So Lebo has no moved into complete socialism and the school district will be the indoctrination camp.

  4. In 2012-13, the state PSERS payment will be more than 10 percent of the proposed K-12 total. School employees contribute, on average, about 7.4 percent of their salaries.

The higher class sizes in your future are for the kids.

  5. Call me crazy, Samuel, but their definition of intimidation is how we got in so much debt. Also, intimidation is how a lot of SB directors roll.

  6. Could they have possibly written a more vague donation and naming rights policy?
Why not just say: "acceptance will be up to the discretion of the board/administration!" and save a few pages of meaningless mumbo jumbo.
It says in essence - if we like you and you're going to give us enough money we'll accept it. If we don't like you, you have a snow flakes chance in hell of putting your name on anything... unless of course... You donate a ton of money, But we still won't be friends.

  7. This comment was emailed to me by someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Funny how the school district had this policy when my disabled child graduated in 2004. The district completely ignored their own policy. My child was deliberately scheduled in classes with a bully, who verbally harassed and assaulted her in class and in the hallways beginning in 7th grade. It continued all through high school. The district did nothing. It was their passive-aggressive way of getting rid of a disabled child. You know in ML there is nobody disabled. Everyone is perfect! They can write all of the policies they want, but the fact remains they only enforce their policies when it suits their needs. By the way, it is a civil rights violation to harass any disabled child in all school districts in PA.
