The following letter to the editor comes from frequent contributor, James E. Cannon, III.
As many of you know, on September 11, 2012, the U. S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya was attacked by armed and organized terrorists. Four Americans were killed: Ambassador Chris Stevens (who had volunteered to go to Libya); State Department information management specialist, Air Force veteran and father of two Sean Smith; former Navy SEALs and diplomatic security contractors Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty.
In the days following the planned attack, the Obama administration delivered a tale of a “spontaneous” riot and uprising due to an obscure an unknown video floating around YouTube. The video had been online and available for months garnering only several hundred views. Yet following mass riots in multiple Middle Eastern countries, culminating in the consulate attack on September 11, the anniversary of the worst attack on U.S. soil, Obama and his appointees placed blame squarely on the unknown 14-minute clip that resulted in thousands and thousands of additional views. Those officials propagating this lie included U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, White House spokesman Jay Carney, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, along with President Barack Hussein Obama.
In the ensuing weeks, it has been discovered the consulate had asked for additional security in the months prior to the attack only to be refused, including sending emails directly to the Secretary of State in which consulate staff explicitly detailed how they would not and could withstand any kind of organized attack. In addition, one need not have a genius level IQ to recognize the significance of the date. For anyone in the U.S., especially the President, to not be cognizant of the symbolism of September 11th, and not maintain a higher level of vigilance—especially in Muslim countries, and ones in turmoil to boot—is the height of stupidity, incompetence and, in the case of the President, a dereliction of duty. It has also come to light that the attack lasted 7 hours, time in which those two brave SEALs manned weapons and repelled multiple attacks. Those men repeatedly called for assistance, just as they had on combat missions in other countries. But it was to no avail. It is now documented that multiple persons in the White House situation room watched the events in real time via a satellite transmission. President Obama, not wanting to damage some purported “positive” image allegedly created by the U.S in Libya, and not wishing to offend the Muslim world, decided to let those men die. It was pure politics. And it is unforgiveable. He watched those brave men die. Live. On television. And did nothing.
In the Special Operations community, know there is an expectation among those warriors that in return for performing the dangerous tasks at hand, they will ask for and receive the support necessary to accomplish that task. On September 11, 2012 that support was ready, available and close enough to have saved them. But Obama and his minions stood in the way, purposely, coldly and without regard for anyone but themselves. Through their actions they have left an indelible and disgusting stain on our national fabric.
Those men—Stevens, Smith, Woods and Doherty—typified the qualities most of us can only aspire to achieve. The Ambassador and Sean Smith went to Libya hoping to help. God bless them for volunteering. And Woods and Doherty performed in a way I can’t begin to fathom. They exemplified bravery, nobility, courage and honor. Those are characteristics many of us don’t consider on a daily basis much less live by 24/7. Well, those four did and for that, they should not be forgotten. As Americans, they deserved better, and so do we. The cover-up needs to end. Until it does, I have made it my mission, my personal mission, to ensure those four brave souls don’t fade into the background and aren’t washed away by political hacks or the media. It’s happened too often. Not this time. Stand up, America. Take back our government, take back our rights as the citizenry and let’s honor the memory of the Benghazi Four.
J.E. Cannon III (U.S. Marine Corps/U.S. Army)

James,
ReplyDeleteI have followed this story for several weeks and switched around to different online media outlets looking for information. It has been buried in terms of ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNN and others. FOX NEWS is the only group that reports on this when it comes to popular media outlets.
Those poor souls were sitting ducks. I couldn't stand listening to the interview of the Navy Seal's father and I hope that his brave son's demise will not continue to go unnoticed. Our ambassador was murdered and no one seems to care? What have we come to as a nation?
-Charlotte Stephenson
Perhaps those poor souls would not have been sitting ducks if the Ryan budget hadn't cut hundreds of millions of dollars from embassy security. Caring about this situition and screaming about for shallow political purposes are two very different things. This was a tragedy but it was not unique to our nation or our times. Many of our allies have faced similar attacks in the region over the last 2-3 years. The job of our government at this point is to bring these murderers to justice and to ensure that the situation is never repeated. When people stop playing politics with these issues perhaps we will eventually be able to address the issues.
ReplyDeleteSkip Ecole
Is this issue unique to Mt. Lebanon? If not, why is it here?
ReplyDeleteSkip,
ReplyDeleteYour broad statement about the budget simply deflects the facts. This was not a question of a budget cut, there were resources readily available to assist our team and that support was withheld. The facts speak for themselves. Four people are dead after numerous requests for protection were ignored while in service to you and I. To me, the job of our government is to protect our citizens and to use what resources we have to do so, not sweep it under the rug because of a pending election.
It's sad to me that you would take a shot at Paul Ryan over this, he wasn't in the situation room sitting on his hands and watching the events play out.
-Charlotte Stephenson
Skip--it's sadly amusing to me that you end your statement with "when people stop playing politics..." but you open your ridiculous post with "...if the ryan budget hadn't cut hundreds of millions of dollars..."
ReplyDeleteFirst off, for someone who is obviously one of the Obama zombies, you're sure placing a lot of faith and confidence in the being that is Paul Ryan. So it's your contention that one congressman can unilaterally dictate spending on defense and the state department? Man, I guess I missed that part of civics class.
Secondly, the "job" of our government is not to investigate murders. The "job" of our federal government is protect the safety and security of the people. Period. The government, or at least those who had the authority to perform said "job", failed to do so, then lied about it. If I did that where I work, I would be fired.
Lastly, you're obviously a troll. You know nothing about government, nothing about the world and would rather be a cheerleader for the incompetent rubes who have somehow infiltrated the highest levels of government in our nation. The person or persons who allowed four Americans to be killed purely for politics should face federal charges. Nevermind the people overseas who committed the acts. It should never have happened.
To the other post, I would respond by stating that corrupt elected officials aren't unique to Mt. Lebanon but we discuss it here. Politics in general aren't unique to our community yet this site provides a forum in which people can openly discuss various issues. Know what else isn't unique to Lebo? Patriotism. Hope that answers your question. If not, feel free to contact me directly. My number is 412-304-6114. I'd be happy to sit down and discuss any and all points I've laid out.
The Ryan budget cutting is fact, how is that playing politics. The Ambassador himself declined extra security, also a fact.
ReplyDeleteMr. Cannon,
ReplyDeleteThank you - You have written an outstanding letter and presented the situation very well.
Like Charlotte, I also listened to the Fox News interview. One point that the father of the fallen Navy Seal mentioned focused on integrity, character and the inability of the president's generation to communicate truthfully. His point emphasized the importance of character in our elected officials.
Thank you Mr Cannon for reminding all of us to consider the character of the candidates very carefully when we vote next week; and thank you again for your thoughtful presentation.
It appears I forgot to sign my last post but did post my phone number. Sorry for the error.
Delete1246--perhaps you can explain to me how Paul Ryan controlled federal spending by himself. I'd be interested to know which Consitutional loophole allowed him and him alone to determine expenditures or limits on federal money dedicated for diplomatic security. And by all means, if you know of any other spending limits Ryan somehow imposed all by himself on the entire federal government, please share. The voters have a right to know about it. Take your time. I have until Tuesday morning to hear all about this.
Ryan smyan. Where is the outrage?!
ReplyDeleteThis was an American Ambassador, US citizens and a US embassy.
Were the situation reversed and it was a Lybian embassy attacked here by some fringe group every US interest in the Middle East would've been under immediate seige. Plus every US law enforcement agency would be beating the bushes to capture the perpetrators of the dirty deed.
instead of outrage we have the president and top US officials excusing the event because of some nonsensical video. Incredible, how little respect we have for our citizens and our country.
Do not miss construe that I am condoning attacking Lybians or Middle East interest. Only illustrating what would be happening in a role reversal.
ReplyDeleteMy point is that there is no rational civil excuse for an attack on any country's ambassador or embassy.
The first thing the administrationshould have done was to abhor an uncivilized act, institute outrage by cutting off aid and breaking off diplomatic relations until the murders are delivered.
Instead the administration looked to find fault here rather than there.
"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts."
ReplyDelete~ Abraham Lincoln
Truer words, wish all our representives democrat, republican, locally and nationally would remember them, we could get so much done.
12:46 Really, shame on you and how sad for their families that you would suggest such nonsense as if the ambassador and the others are to blame for their own murder. How do you sleep at night?

ReplyDeleteMr Cannon, thank you for your letter. It's spot on. I think the American people deserve to know the truth and know it before they go to the polls.
As for you doubters and those who say that Ryan's budget, which wasn't approved by congress or the Senate or the President, is the cause, you may want to take a class on the US Constitution regarding how bills are passed. You may also want take some time to inform yourself as the US has been operating without a budget for years because of the Democrat controlled Senate.

So you may want to take your talking points to a place where there's less informed people.
Jack, If your information is correct it proves Democrats are untrustworthy.

Someone who won't sign his last name to a comment taking a pot shot at "anonymous 'Warriors'" is outright comedy, Jack (Who?)
ReplyDeleteSorry, 12:02, I know Jack Mulliken. At least he has the courage to sign his name, buddy.
ReplyDeleteElaine
Jack,
ReplyDeleteHow dare you present facts in the face of ignorant rehtoric...it's just not fair.
That's right Elaine. My email was on the link to my profile which had my name so I wasn't hiding. I did update it so that my full name shows now.
ReplyDeleteHow about you 12:02? You want to step up to the plate?
Mr Cannon, I know. Using those super powers like a search engine and having the ability to read are definitely unfair advantages when dealing with the terminally uninformed.
For those who found my explanation of how the American legislature works confusing, let School House Rock explain it to you:

Mr. Muliken,
ReplyDeleteI went to Washington D. C. a while back to attend a forum for a charity with which I was involved. The Lt. Governor of Maryland told us he spent 60% of his time killing bills in committee that legislators wanted to introduce for the folks back home but really didn't care if they ever passed into law. If that happens on the state level, I have to wonder how often it happens on the national level.

Even the Washington Post is all over this:

Mr Ewing, I'm sure it happens a lot. I actually had a conversation with Congressman Murphy about this once. It was very interesting.
ReplyDeleteBack to Benghazi, the thing that's going to be most damning isn't just the death of 4 Americans, including the Ambassador (not to discount this as it is a horrible thing) but what the Ambassador was doing in Benghazi on behalf of the Administration.
And for those who think it's just the Republicans on a persecution hunt, you'd probably be interested in knowing that Dennis Kucinich, one of the most liberal Democrat members of the House of Representatives is one of the most outspoken politicians on this issue, asking some of the hardest questions.

If Obama wins (and the likelihood of that drops by the day), he will be facing a very revealing investigation on what happened in Benghazi and the revelation that the reason the Ambassador was in Benghazi, so exposed, was that he was working to illegally ship weapons from Libya, including shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles, to Syria without the knowledge of Congress. Even uber-liberal Democrat congressman, Dennis Kucinich is questioning how many of these weapons are still running free in Libya because of the failure of the Administration to clean things up properly.
ReplyDeleteThis is starting to find its way into the news although nothing front-page yet.

Because of this and because of Obama’s deep involvement, he will be facing impeachment in a second term as this falls well within the definition of “High Crimes and Misdemeanors.” The Republicans are going to hold the house and it’s possible they could make major inroads in the Senate. The majority of Americans are appalled at the administration’s lies over Benghazi to the point where the MSM won’t be able to cheerlead the public’s opinion to Obama’s side.
I, for one, am deathly afraid of the term “President Joe Biden” (the poor guy doesn’t know what state he’s in 1/2 the time) and I know an impeachment proceeding would not be good for the Republic.
If that's true, and I stress the word "if", it would be a much bigger story and scandal than Iran-Contra.
ReplyDeleteFor those out there who haven't exhaled since their college days, how does one defend Obama in light of the fact the "official" story has changed a half dozen times in six weeks? Sniff sniff...what's that smell? The stuff the President and his people are shoveling to the rest of us.
Mr. Mulliken,
ReplyDeleteYou have to stop using so many facts. You're going to hurt someone's feelings. And keep in mind, if you keep being so truthful, it might effect the number of cocktail parties to which you're invited.
I'm glad you posted what you did as it shows this whole situation should be non-partisan and apolitical. At its heart, it's really about responsiblility, capability and leadership, three traits the current President does not possess. When the WTC was bombed in 1993, Clinton didn't hide it. It was all out there for the world to see. In 1998 when the embassies in Tanzania and Kenya were bombed, killing hundreds, Clinton didn't hide it. Same with the USS Cole. Under GW Bush, there were a number of attacks on embassies including in Athens and Karachi. No Americans were killed and in one case, the terrorists attacked an empty building. But Bush didn't hide it. So what makes Obama different?
He's still--STILL--telling people the Al Qaeda is "decimated" and on the run, despite virtually every terrorism expert on the planet disputing it. We watched as riots unfolded across the entire Middle East and Obama's response was "hey, everything's fine". This is a man who openly supported the Muslim Brotherhood taking over Egypt while patting himself on the back for whatever tepid support the US provided during the revolution--a move experts worldwide cautioned would lead to something much, much worse.
It's a shame this man has chosen to politicize an issue like the deaths of four Americans who were representing our nation in one of the most dangerous places in the world. Fortunately, this came close enough to the election that there wasn't time to line up viable fall guys, though they've tried throwing scapegoats against the wall to see what sticks. At the end of the day, there should have been nothing to hide. So it makes one wonder what is it that shouldn't see the light of day?
Please remember those four brave men Tuesday.
15 November the Senate Intelligence Committee looks at the Benghazi attacks without the help of the CIA Director.

From your link, 7:48 PM.
ReplyDeleteBenghazi Fallout
Petraeus leaves an agency embroiled in the fallout from the deaths of four U.S. citizens, including the ambassador to Libya, in the Sept. 11 attack on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi. Republican lawmakers have been pressing the Obama administration, CIA and State Department for more information about what occurred during the attack.
Petraeus was set to testify at the Senate Intelligence Committee next week. He no longer will appear at the Nov. 15 session, according to Brian Weiss, a spokesman for Feinstein. He also will not appear at a House Intelligence Committee hearing, according to a House aide.
Sure sounds fishy.
Elaine
CIA Director Petraeus cheated on his wife, now he is cheating on his Country for political convenience.
ReplyDeleteIsn't he a swell guy? Too bad Feinstein doesn't have the moral courage to subpoena him.
