Swimming pool bids

I don't have any details, except there was a very long executive session tonight before the meeting. A topic was added to the agenda tonight at the beginning of the commission meeting.

The swimming pool work will be rebid. I have to listen to the meeting again for any other details. As you might recall, a lawsuit resulted from the first bid opening.

  3. The Commissioners are on record as stating when they voted to approve the original bids, which were more than $900,000 OVER BUDGET, that to rebid the project, the rebids would be even higher!

The original accepted bids included over $500,000 alone in add-alternate cost items that were "wish list" goodies and not necessary. The base bids themselves were about $400,000 over budget. Add-alternates should be considered only if base bids come in UNDER budget. Neither the Commission nor the Manager apparently placed any management controls or oversight on the project from beginning to bid openings. The staff and architect just seemingly ran amuck. The Muni also specified 5 multiple prime contractors instead of a single prime general contractor and did so without a specified construction or project manager and cost to oversee and control the project. Absolute stupidity ! When pressed about who would manage or oversee the project, the Muni answer was the Rec Director. Ohhh yah ! And then there was the bid opening itself and possible violations of law ?

Any bets on rebid terms and conditions and results ? Is a May 15, 2014 completion date going to still be a required completion date ,with or without penalty clauses ?

Best wishes to Anna Pappas. Lebo, a community of characters, needs a real house cleaning.

  6. The high school Gantt project schedule indicated the new athletic building that features the 8-lane Olympic pool, a roughly $25 million Taj Mahal, was to be completed ready for occupancy and use by late August, some 4 weeks ago ? Like the new Marriot hotel on Washington Rd. that was to open this past March, and now supposedly late November.

  7. 11:20 you can't expect too much from a municipality that "adjusts" open bids. This is no longer the muni in which I grew up.

  9. There should be a law that any elected official who knowingly votes for extravagant projects has to foot the bills.

This kind of crap has got to stop!
