OK, we know the drill

McNeilly Park corral is gone.
Connor Road corral is gone.
Robb Hollow corral is gone.
Golf course corral near Shop 'N Save is gone.

Golf course corral near Sleepy Hollow is still there.
Bird Park corral is still there.

I hear that the white No Trespassing signs have been removed, but the yellow warning signs are still posted in all five "parks."

OK, so we know the drill, right? Since the municipality refuses to tell us where the new locations are, we know what to do.

  • Scour the parks, looking for new locations.
  • Look for utility flags. Remember, Merlin has to call PA One Call again. He has been reminded.
  • Get GPS coordinates of new sites.
  • Plot the coordinates.
  • Look for clover traps.
Benner has to wait for PA One Call. That can take up to five business days. Also, it takes time for deer to become comfortable with new bait feeders.

Kelly Fraasch was told that Benner is moving corrals to areas where there are more deer.

I updated the deer kill count. Zero kills the last two nights.

Update March 19, 2015 11:37 AM More signs from high school student, Claire Pullen. Claire said to consider it public domain and don't worry about copyrights.  Distribute them far and wide! Thank you, Claire!

  1. Is it possible that this thing is shutting down?

  2. Steve Feller told Kelly Fraasch that Merlin Benner is relocating the corrals to areas where there are more deer.

  3. Yep, ready and trained for round two...reporting for duty. The Benner Boys are clearly regrouping. Warm weather will keep the deer feasting on the new sprouts...my neighborhood clan was happily feasting on new grass growth. Why would they want to snack on that nasty corn?

Keep up the great work...especially to all our non-Lebo friends in the field. Bravo!

    Keep Calm and Carry On...

  4. 11:01 pm IF ONLY they were smart enough to AT THE VERY LEAST say we were wrong, and pack Benner up and leave...

    ReplyDelete
  5. Benner was mad. Throwing things and yelling while packing the Corral up.. All of them were moved. The Game Commission and Police were there. People should be warned where he moved the Corrals. This is a safety issue.

    ReplyDelete
  6. They don't and won't ever admit they were wrong. That there is not a deer problem like they thought. How about checking the yards of the garden ladies. Especially the one that states she has 12 deer in her yard every day. The one caller to kdka last night said he has lived in Lebo for 60 years and did not know of anyone that hit a deer!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Have the news stations been notified. They will have field day with this. The residents have a right to know where they have been moved. Maybe not pay your outrageous property tax.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Don't the Commissioners have to meet in session and vote to approve new corral/killing locations?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Why were the Pa Game Commission and the corn Police at the McNeilly corral site when Benner was packing up and having a temper tantrum?

There seems to be something missing to this story.

Is there anything to the story that a deer was shot and died in someone's yard?

If so, was the deer shot outside the corral? How could a deer shot in the corral escape?

I think there is a lot going on that the public doesn't know about.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Benner should have taken the $12,000 he received on his boiler plate deer assessment scam and ran. Take the money and run! However, he got greedy, and wanted to mug the Mt. Lebanon taxpayers for more.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Time spent relocating corrals is time not spent on killing deer.

Since they work at night, that throws off the sleep cycle.

I could offer a few tips on how to work around that...but I will wait until April 1 :p

No new kills is GREAT news! Must have rattled the right cages to get the Pennsylvania Game Commission to show up. See if they ever sign off on another cockamamie hog-trap for deer scheme.

We're getting there! Keep grinding away. 24 hours and a cloud of dust. Corn dust. All day, every day!

  12. 3:15 That $12,000 has been burned by now. *poof*

Remember it's not 12K in his pocket after taxes.

Any accountants want to take a swing at Benner's actual tax-adjusted deer revenue?

All along I've been looking at $500 a deer on the supply side.

Benner is looking at what, $400? $350? Less? Throw in his expenses and woo doggie. He might have made more money waitin tables at the Wellsboro House.

Dawn soon. Up and at em!

    :)

  13. According to certain commissioners and residents, you can't step out your front door or pull out of your driveway without bumping into deer.
Yet, Benner has has to move his corn feeders and corrals to find them! Yeah right.
I'm thinking 2:48 right. There's more to the story than we're hearing as to why Benner's moving his corrals.
If he's on a hunt for more deer and more profit, why the temper tantrum?

    ReplyDelete
  14. If Benner had a brain, he and his boys would pack-up and leave in the middle of the night. Bye, Bye Benner.
Yes, I agree. The Mt. Lebo department of misinformation should be sending out a press release notifying all about the location of any new sites. Benner has to wait for PA One Call, anyway. So, informing the public must come before any shooting at the new sites.

    ReplyDelete
  15. So for Benner to make his $500/deer bounty the police and the Game Commission must accompany him as he moves his corrals?
Nah, somethings amiss here, but a perfect example of your municipal tax dollars at work.
How much does it costs us to put a police officer on the street/hour. Include salary, benefits, equipment, insurance and add that to the bottom line on what this boondoggle is costing us.
And for what, he's taken down how many to this point-- six!
What a great plan Mr. Feller and Commissioners, you people are brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 11:33 PM, don't worry. The news stations are following this closely.

7:32 AM, the five locations have been announced, according to Feller.

    McNeilly
    Conservation District
    Bird Park
    Golf Course
    Robb Hollow

"There MAY be up to eight corrals," emphasized Feller.

Benner can't afford to build eight corrals.

How many Googled "Wellsboro House" besides me? :) Great comment, 6:00 AM!

Corrals moved to where more deer:

    Corrals taken down:
    McNeilly
    Connor
    Robb Hollow
    1 lower golf course

    Corrals still there"
    Bird Park
    1 upper golf course

Feller says that the new corral locations are the same locations. So are they just relocating the new corrals in the same areas at different locations? That doesn't make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Can Benner put clover traps in residents back yards, and use lethal weapons to shoot them, without a Commission vote of approval at a public session meeting, and with no notice to the neighbors?

I'm just assuming that the commissionettes might demand to get their back yard tulip eating deer killed, because that's what this entire killing program is all about.

If anyone lives next to Barbara Logan, Carolyn Byham, or Bonnie VanKirk, you may want to look for clover traps.

Of course, for Linfante's home, Benner would need a killing corral, because she has 12 deer on her roof, 16 in her back yard, 6 in her driveway, and 3 fawns on her front porch.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Might be a case of "hurry up and do SOMETHING"

Could the commissioners have called in more experts to salvage, er help manage "Operation Titanic"?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Maybe Linfante's private neighborhood bow hunt, killed all the deer.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I drive by one of the Commissionette houses frequently taking my child to an activity. She does not have a clover trap in her back or front yard that is visible from the street.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Let's face it: the deer are smarter than Benner and the Commission. This could be why we have problems in Mt Lebanon.

    ReplyDelete
  23. And better looking...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Insanity is doing the same thing and expected different results. I wonder if they have psych wards in Wellsboro?
In Cranbrook, a city in Canada, they attempted a trap and relocate program. They trapped 4 deer in 11 days. They stopped the program. They are smarter than Lebo's lawmakers for sure.
Can we get our money back? If I bought a car that performed as poorly as Benner I would return it and demand a refund.
Now I know why the three other deer management firms would not bid on the job.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Does anyone know of a car size magnet maker for the latest deer related art? Something related to "slowing for wildlife' might be helpful, too.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Just read the tribune review article of 2 days ago stating several incidences of interfering with the cull like putting sticks in corral gates so deer could escape and throwing white balls around corral soaked with foul smelling whatever to keep deer away and throwing a corn feeder over a hill. They said all caught on tape but people were not able to be identified because they had hoodies on??? Could it be that Benner had his own guys do it just to look like this failure is not his fault.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Love the artwork! What a great job! Will place in front house window. Would love a magnetic car sticker.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am not religious but prayed for the deer every night...Higher Being please proctect the deer and don't let them die. Maybe it paid off. Can't those Brenner boys leave town. I wonder if they could extend this madness past March 31st?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Not sure clover traps will help.the PGC Video says "deer may not go into traps." Pay attention Benner.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 11:38---Very funny. Keep 'em coming.

  31. Does anyone feel sorry for Mr.Benner, a father of five, a Deacon and highly thought of my a lot of hunters in PA??? He is just a deer exterminating business hoping to expand.. Keep holding your breath because i dont think Benner is going to give up.. he has too much to lose..

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don’t feel sorry for any HACK using hog traps on deer out of season to line his pockets.

This CLOWN claims we are breaking the law, yet shows no proof. Claims his other company is expert in surveillance, yet can't muster any photos of supposed people interfering? Give me a break.

He already soaked the town for $12K for his bogus study, then waltzes back in and calls citizens lawbreakers? Get the heck out.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 1:25 this is what happens with so-called certified wildlife biologists fail to appreciate a) science, b) ethics, c) laws and d) citizens. the combined failure of the pgc, benner and mt lebanon is a great learning lesson for students of all ages. you can watch for the "blame game" in the coming weeks in which the police, muni staff, commission, game commission and banner's staff all try to point the finger at each other and "animal activists". but we know that they are all in it together.

    ReplyDelete
  34. No sympathy here. If indiscriminate, barbaric murder of innocent animals, outside of hunting season, is his chosen method of making money, no sympathy here. His children have probably bern raised to have uncompassionate, murderous hearts. This entire thing is sickening. Hoping he can't get an extension. Would like to be able to sleep at night again. No deer should have lost their lives this spring. Too sad.

  35. 12:16, 12:30 it's easy to make your own bumperstickers or magnets.
    Here's a link on how it's done.
    http://m.wikihow.com/Make-Bumper-Stickers-to-Sell

Office Depot used to sell the paper and I know they have the material to make business card size magnets but not sure if it comes in larger sizes than that.

The UV spay is a must and if Home Depot doesn't have it Michaels, Rolliers should.

If you want to go the commercial route, VistaPrint.com makes them and I think Zazzle does too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 11:38, 1:07 the commissionettes probably don't think it is funny at all.
A while ago someone made a comment about how attractive and better dressed they were.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1:40 I'd keep your eyes and ears open for the blame game lawsuits.
Unfortunately, the taxpayers will be footing the bill for that too.
Just look at the document the PIO has on as the contract. If that's it, one has to question the abilities of all municipal "lawyers."

    ReplyDelete
  38. Imagine if deer headstones start randomly appearing in the gardens.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 1:45. Somehow I don’t expect Benner to bid on future Mt. Lebanon contracts.

A small business counting on a $75K job that fails will have a cash flow hiccup that will be tough to digest.

    ReplyDelete
  40. THEY ARE RELOCATING TRAPS TO PREVENT PEOPLE FROM INTERVENING !!!

  41. Meanwhile, in a fleabag motel, Merlin plots Plan B

  42. 2:11, I may incorrect, hoping, but wasn't Benner contracted at $80k for the next 4 years? Am still wondering if he will get an extension past 3/31 this year. If anyone knows...

    ReplyDelete
  43. http://mtlebanon.org/DocumentCenter/View/10757

    Holy crap!
Doesn't anyone read contracts. Benner specifically spells out that he is using "Corral Traps for Deer." The contract is very specific, going so far as to diagram the traps, materials used etc., etc.

Furthermore why would Benner be ranting and raving about moving a trap, unless he's setting up his argument that the police don't provide the support services spelled out in the contract.

On the top of page 5 he exclaims that "This methodology will provide the ability to capture multiple deer at a time, maximizing the effectiveness of the project at reaching the goal of 150 deer. It is also a small, portable system    Which is small enough to be deployed within the tight conditions of Mt. Lebanon, and be able rapidly moved to capitalize on new areas of high deer activity."

I see no mention of using alternatives traps or methods, so if Benner is using other means he's breached the terms of the contract.

Plus it says he'll be giving reports to Feller on the number of deer visiting the sites. We should be seeing that information and more from the PIO. Benner's suppose to provide it.

Furthermore why would Benner be ranting and raving about moving a small, portable trap unless he's setting up his argument that the police don't provide the support services spelled out in the contract on page 9.

  44. Just back from a walk through Bird Park. A man appeared to be ripping the black tarp off the corral. Hoping this corral is coming down, too.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 2:47. If he is, this should be a fun (albeit costly) extrication to watch.

Nothing like massive egos overriding good business sense.

    ReplyDelete
  46. 2:58. Was he hollerin'? Mighta been Merlin. If he grumbled and called the cops, it was Gene.

Must be mighty expensive puttin up and tearin down and movin around all them traps. Noisy too and leaves a lot of scent. Them deers are skittish, yaknow. Ayup.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The report does not show any escaped deer. What about the one that died in someone's yard from a bullet????? I would call that an escape!

    ReplyDelete
  48. They captured the deer after it died, so no escape.

The fact that they even list "escaped deer" in what are supposed to be corrals is yet another clue what a hokey operation this is.

It will be a social nightmare at cocktail parties.

    ReplyDelete
  49. In Requests for Proposals document, mtlebanon.org/documentcenter/view/10721, Page 3, Section IV, Term of Contract, third sentence states, "The contract will not be extended past March 31st 2015."

    ReplyDelete
  50. There will be no social nightmare for the pro ill commissioners. They surround themselves with shallow, self centered, and ruthless people -- just like them.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Add Feller to the Linfante liars club!

It's almost impossible for me to believe that a employee (Feller) would tell their boss (Frasch) to go pound it and lie to them. That's insubordination and grounds for dismissal!

    ReplyDelete
  52. At this point, things are in a state of flux.

Obviously, SOMETHING happened that caused the PGC to show up and the corrals to be dismantled and supposedly "relocated". Something caused Benner to become irate in front of the PGC and the corn police, and starta hollerin and hurlin things hither and yon.

The report paints a dismal, yet bleak, but also hopeless picture of an effort gone abysmally wrong.

Until we hear otherwise, they are still out there waiting to kill our deer.

The fact that there may be a pink slip awaiting them as early as tomorrow, and possibly even layoffs when they get back to Tioga County, may not be foremost in their minds.

Go forth then this Spring evening, and cast a wary eye for these evil deer haters as they lurk in the dark.

  53. 7:54 Feller always lies. This is nothing new. This is why Kelly is the Patron Saint of Commissioners.
