I received the strangest emails last night. I believe the sender thought he was sending an email anonymously, but hadn't realized that his name was attached to it.
At the September 8, 2015 Commission meeting, Wess Smith spoke during Citizen Comments at the 01:02:00 time stamp. He estimated the growth of the deer population in the next five years to be 3,200 deer. He had some crazy math going on. If Mr. Smith's numbers were correct, we should be tripping over deer since we had not done any killing since 2008.
I never heard back from Mr. Smith. Undoubtedly, Avon Drive will be hosting archers. I drive in that area frequently. Sadly, we will be seeing deer with arrows in them darting on to Mt. Lebanon Blvd. The archery will start a week from tomorrow. Stay safe, Mt. Lebanon.
Mr. Smith glanced over to your direction Elaine when he was returning to his seat. Watch for it on the tape !
ReplyDeleteElaine - Was he trying to be "nice" and tell you the location of one of the hunts? This is very confusing. Also, what is "activity"? Is "activity" the building of tree stands? This is so horrific I am glad I took my children out of the schools and moved. Godspeed, Mt Lebanon.
ReplyDeleteI saw what I believe are two tree stands near the lower end of Lindendale near Cedar. They were three-sided with roofs (God forbid the shooters would get wet). They made my skin crawl. I wish I knew of some way to warn the deer. I also wish I didn't live here.
ReplyDeleteI remember him, Elaine. He was very confusing. I wonder if he is against the archery, but doesn't want to admit that publicly. If it's the same Wes Smith, his wife, Nancy, is a master gardener. I don't know if I am suspicious or is he sincerely and secretly trying to give you information to somehow help the deer.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is the same Wes Smith. No, he is definitely not trying to help the deer. On Earth Day in Main Park, he filmed me "ranting" about Lyme Disease.

I wonder what he's up to? That is very strange.
ReplyDeleteAll this talk about killing deer seems to be having an impact. Somebody wrote this on Lincoln/Mt Lebo Next Door:
ReplyDelete"If I feel endangered by deer, can I shoot them?"
then someone said
"Check the fire arms code first. I think you can shoot people endangering you on your property but not deer. That's a shame."
False alarm. I drove over to Lindendale and took this picture that is just below Lindendale and Glaids. It is not a tree stand. I also drove around Public Works and didn't see any tree stands. However, I didn't go all the way down to the end.

Wait, I just had a Sherlock moment. Could Wes Smith not really be Wes Smith but someone who KNOWS all of this info? Just a thought. This is the most ridiculous thing. Everything. Mt Lebanon.
ReplyDeleteYou may be right, 5:07 PM. I found his website. He is an artist and a photographer. http://www.wesssmith.com/gallery-contemporary-fine-art/flora-and-fauna/ I think the deer kill will be a photo op for him. Look at this. http://www.wesssmith.com/gallery-contemporary-fine-art/encounters/
ReplyDeleteElaine
He does own the house mentioned, according to the Allegheny County Assessment website (one of my least favorite places).
ReplyDeleteIf Mr. Smith enjoys photographing "encounters," this idea may make for more interesting photo ops.
