I was dreading this. I just got a call from a deer supporter, wondering what to do. The couple happened to be looking at a vacant house on Ridgeview Drive, near Eisenhower, very close to the Conservation District. A doe was "resting" in the back yard with a large gash in its back.
The caller didn't know what to do. I suggested that they call 911, which they did. The caller also reported that there were no "Not In My Yard" signs in the area.
Keep in mind that today is Sunday. There was no hunting yesterday or today. That deer had to be hit Friday or earlier.
Update September 28, 2015 1:29 PM Two more unrelated incidents have also occurred in Mt. Lebanon, as a result of the archery hunt. There was a car accident on Washington Road involving an injured deer, while the other occurred in Steve Silverman’s ward. Details are sketchy. All in the first week of archery season.

This is terrible! I am going to let everyone I know about this. How awful.
ReplyDeleteWord on the street is that this is NOT the first reported wounded deer this weekend. And yes, 911 MUST be called to track these botched attempts. You can remain anonymous when phoning these in.
ReplyDeleteSick in my stomach.

Elaine,
ReplyDeleteAre you keeping a log of all incidents so that everyone can be made aware of them?
I have posted them here and on my website, www.lebocitizens.com. The blog is private, but the website is public.

Maybe a flyer listing the incidents could be handed out at the next function where the pro kill people and Barbara Logan will be disseminating information and trying to obtain supporters for their cause.
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea, 1:55 PM. There is a commission meeting tonight. How about making such a flyer and handing it out? The discussion session starts at 6:30 and the commission meeting begins at 8:00 PM.

Because I dont live in Lebo or I would definitely do that at the meeting and any and all functions where the pro kill folks push their agendas! I would be happy to help create a flyer, i can keep a talley of incidents as they occur and as you publish them. Let me know.
ReplyDeletePhotos of injured deer would be helpful for those flyers too. If someone sees something and can take a photo and submit it to Elaine....
