Mt. Lebanon Commission will appoint Keith McGill as the new municipal manager at its Jan. 4 reorganization meeting.
McGill, Mt. Lebanon’s chief planning officer since 2002, has been serving as interim manager since Steve Feller’s retirement in October. A lifelong Mt. Lebanon resident, McGill was selected following a national search.
“Keith possesses the skills necessary to be an outstanding manager and community leader,” said John Bendel, commission president. “His extensive background in planning and local government, coupled with his strong work ethic and knowledge of the community, make Keith an excellent choice.”
A University of Pittsburgh graduate, McGill began his career with Mt. Lebanon as code enforcement officer in 1997. Among his areas of expertise are municipal ordinances, budgeting, land use, construction management, geographic information systems, strategic planning, parking administration, storm-water maintenance and transit-oriented development.
McGill will report to the commission and supervise the municipal staff. He will be responsible for all municipal projects, revenues and expenditures, including the preparation of the annual manager’s recommended budget.
“The commission did an exhaustive search for the manager position and found the best candidate for the position,” said Kelly Fraasch, who will serve as commission president for 2016. “With Keith’s years of experience within the community and his drive to serve the residents of Mt Lebanon, we will continue to head in a positive direction as a municipality for years to come.”
"Thanks to our Commissioners for their hard work on the search..." Seriously? How much did that consultant charge us? Remember the dog and pony show...I mean...the Tell Us What Qualities You Would Like To See In Our Future Manager informational meeting?
I can't find the proposal submitted by Gov HR USA of Northbrook, Illinois in the September 8, 2015 meeting minutes. How much did our hardworking commissioners spend to hire the interim manager?
Update December 24, 2015 11:05 AM OK, this is weird. Look what Gov HR USA just tweeted.
Well, the commissioners hired one of their own. He'll make a good servant.
ReplyDeleteAnd Kelly Fraasch is next Year's commission prez?
ReplyDeleteThey seem to like that blind leading the blind type of governance. Why don't I live in a community that is led by enlightened, educated and bright individuals? Kelly. Makes me want to vomit.
That's interesting. When I saw Mr. McGill yesterday, he personally told me that 3-4 candidates were interested in the position and that a decision would not be made by the executive search team until sometime in January.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Mr. McGill...I guess!!
Nick M.
How much money did we spend on this "exhaustive" search only to end up with who's working the job now?
ReplyDelete"....we will continue to head in a positive direction as a municipality..." said Fraasch. Does somebody want to give her the news that Mt. Lebanon is in a downward spiral?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if there were really 3-4 candidates. It's sad not to believe anything anymore. Better off skeptical, I guess.
ReplyDeleteMcGill might be a small step up from Feller, though.
McGill can only take small steps, 12:11. He is only 3' tall.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the 3-4 phantom candidates had to participate in a swimsuit competition, like those who auditioned for Kristen's seat on the commission earlier this year.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to share a reply from Dave Brumfield when asked about the candidates and my questions to Mr. McGill directly:
ReplyDelete"For obvious reasons Mr. McGill could not be kept fully informed of the Commission's progress. We did have 4 candidates that were interviewed and 3 that had second interviews. The commission had committed to trying to make a decision before our January meeting. Fortunately, we were able to meet Saturday and come to a decision. Mr. McGill was unaware of this until he was actually offered the position."
According to the Sunshine Act, a vote can't be taken until the next public meeting. I would offer to note that someone jumped the gun a bit on this.

When it came to hiring a new manager, the first decision made should have been is McGill qualified or not? Yes or no? If yes, hire him. If not, conduct the search for a qualified candidate. Why can't they figure that out?
ReplyDelete6:42, as Elaine pointed out, it's all part of a dog and pony show. Decisions by the commissioners are not based on what is best for the taxpayers and the township of Mt. Lebanon, they are based on what is best for the decision makers who run our local government. It's all a game.
ReplyDeleteNick M.
So the commission met again, without notifying the public, and voted on a new manager? Did they notify the public about this? Maybe I missed it.
ReplyDelete11:10, the Sunshine Act seems to be written in pretty specific language:
ReplyDelete"Any official action taken on the basis of discussions held in an executive session must occur at an open public meeting." That can be found at http://tinyurl.com/ovl7luv
Brumfield wrote: "Fortunately, we were able to meet Saturday and come to a decision"
Vuono wrote: "Why would you assume you have the right to know how I voted for the person to fill the municipal manager's position?"
Were votes taken prior to a public meeting to decide our next municipal manager? Yes!!
Nick M.
Vuono is just pure evil.

Speaking of Mt. Lebanon, we got a mention in Brian O'Neill's P-G column today.
ReplyDelete9:16 AM, I found the mention in the O'Neill's column.
ReplyDeleteA reasonable city wish-list for 2016
