I found the catch.

The municipality claims that none of the archery sites are on safe walking routes. I could never understand how they could make that claim. Here is what they really mean. Mike Gallagher wrote in an email on page 2 of the pdf,
"None of the routes are mapped out to go through the parks mentioned."
Uh, what about the private properties that are being handled by White Buffalo? They are hunting on both private and public property. I could not understand, until now, that the claim was pertaining to the public property and NOT about the private properties.

  1. Did Steinhauer send out a letter to parents about the bowhunting and safe walking routes this fall or was the last letter he sent regarding the corrals?

  2. I am shocked (not really) that the MLPD said that none of the safe walking routes were in public killing fields. Because just about every street in Mt. Lebanon is characterized by the MLPD and the MTLSD as a safe walking route for school students, kids have necessarily been walking the sidewalks surrounding the private killing sites. Dahl. Is the MLPD (and school super) stupid or just plain crooks?

  3. Mt. Lebanon can honestly say that the areas that they know about are not on safe walking routes. What they don't say, is that they don't want to know about the private properties that White Buffalo has recruited.

  4. Here is the letter distributed by the district about bowhunting this fall: http://www.mtlebanon.org/DocumentCenter/View/11187

It clearly states: "No hunting will take place on school safe-walking routes" after it states that "The archers will hunt on both public and private property". They never indicate that they are only aware of the public hunting areas but rather, lead the reader to believe that they have evaluated the routes in relation to all of the locations.

Thus, I disagree with you Elaine at 10:02 pm. This letter signed by Feller and distributed by the district leads readers to believe that a) the municipality knows where the hunting will occur and b) it will not occur on walking routes. There is nothing honest about this.

  5. When you're right, you're right. No argument from me. There is nothing honest about this.

  6. 11:58---I'm with you. That exactly what I thought when I received Feller's letter, forwarded by Steinhauer. Of course the muni knows the location of all the killing fields, public and private.
