Is it because the 700-800 deer that we "suddenly" have are too smart for archers, but not too smart for "sharpshooters?"
Will the archery program which runs through January 2017 result in hundreds of surviving pregnant does and we will have a population explosion yielding thousands of fawns?
Will we ever learn what method of distribution Tony will be using for his proprietary corn, patented apples, and magic beans?
Oh wait. I know. Archery is ineffective without the use of bait. Yeah, that's it. See? Tony doesn't have to charge us for his advice. I saved Mt. Lebanon hundreds of dollars.
So commissioners, without knowing how successful the archery program is, without knowing how many deer were killed, without knowing how many deer have survived and live in Mt. Lebanon (and Scott Township), and without knowing if he is doing this day or night, you can approve another "sharpshooting" program and Tony will continue to make you guys look like chumps when he charges us $83,477 to kill up to 100 deer or $132,038 to kill up to 150 deer as per his RFP.
Update October 25, 2016 7:49 AM No worries, Commissionettes. Tony will be on the November 7 Discussion Agenda.

Good morning Elaine,
Sharpshooting was removed from last night's agenda as Tony DeNicola would have only had approximately 10 minutes available last night due to a commitment in another community, This item will be placed on the November 7th discussion agenda.
Keith
As you know Elaine, DeNicola has a blank check to shoot as many deer as he wants and for as long as he wants in Mt. Lebanon. He doesn’t even have to compete with other vendors. McGill just gives him a blank check to fill out. The current Commissioners are a bunch of know-nothing cowards who are afraid to ask any questions, and have betrayed their duty of protecting Lebo families. They’re afraid to ask DeNicola any questions, and they’re afraid to stand up to the Pa Game Commission. We’re back to where we were when the Commission was giving a blank check to the USDA Wildlife Services shooters, and where the Shadow Commission (The Commissionettes) were calling all the shots to protect their tulips and the library garden tour. These killing programs have nothing to do with car-deer collisions. Everyone that knows what’s going on knows that was just a bait and switch strategy.
ReplyDeleteThese Commissioners totally ignored Sandy Baker’s report, the independent deer consultant they brought in, who advised that they launch a community campaign asking all Lebo residents to plant deer resistant flowers and plants. But rather than ask residents to plant deer resistant flowers, they brought in bow-hunters and high powered rifle shooters, which threaten the safety of all Lebo families, children, and pets. The Commission was even offered a safe non-lethal fertility deer mgt program that was going to be mostly paid for by the Dietrich W. Botstiber Foundation, but chose to use taxpayers money for the lethal programs. But of course, this has nothing to do about deer eating elitist resident’s tulips.
The last time there were a Commission of any real merit was when Dan Miller and Raja were elected and served. They drilled the USDA Wildlife Services with questions, and questioned all processes of the municipality. Poor Steve Feller looked sick with worry. All the pro-kill Lebo elite ladies, including PIO Susan Morgans, were quiet as mice. Dan and Raja weren’t falling into line like the other new Commissioners always did. They were alpha dogs and were going to do their jobs, and they did. They asked a lot questions, and got rid of Wildlife Services and stopped the insanity shooting of high powered rifles in Mt. Lebanon. Unfortunately, after they moved on, the elitist deer hating Commissionettes move back in quickly to regain control of the Commission, and that’s where we find ourselves today.
DeNicola puts on this phony non-profit “professional” façade, but he’s into killing deer for the money, lives like a king, and laughs all the way to the bank.
So Mt. Lebanon has been turned into a private hunting preserve and shooting gallery. The Commissioners hired DeNicola with taxpayer dollars to organize and manage their sponsored bow-hunting program, but they claim they know nothing about where these lethal weapons are being used or anything about it. This sounds absolutely unbelievable, reckless and irresponsible, but I guess that’s their strategy to try to avoid liability if anyone gets shot or a wounded deer causes a car accident and people get killed. I doubt that intentional ignorance and negligence is a defense that will hold up in court.
This bow-hunting program is kind of a lost leader for DeNicola. It’s still a lot of taxpayer money, but not from his perspective. He does this bow-hunting program to assure himself an annual bait-and-shoot deer killing contract in the $100,000.00 range.
So there you have it. The only way this insanity will ever be stopped is if the pro-kill puppet Commissioners are voted out of office, and they’re replaced by strong independent candidates like Dan Miller and Raja who don’t give out blank checks to contractors, who aren’t afraid to ask questions, and who will once again implement a safe, non-lethal, deer mgt program. Or someone gets seriously hurt or killed.
BTW, I remember seeing that car-deer accidents spiked up high last year during the bow-hunting program (I can’t remember the statistics during the bait-and-shoot program), which is consistent with the increase in car-deer accidents during hunting season. Hunters push deer out of their safe home ranges and into the roads, and wounded panicked deer run into traffic. In addition, once the matriarch doe is killed, whose job it is to safely cross her family across roads, her fawns run wildly into the roads causing accidents. However, none of these likely hunting related car-deer accidents were counted as incidents.
ReplyDeleteExcellent summation, 4:43/4:44 AM. Thank you!

I was feeling calm about this until I just saw a bow hunter preparing to hunt in Twin Hills Park. PA ZBR 0617. I thought they were supposed to hunt mornings and dusk? Why shouldn't we know who is hunting in our parks if we are paying for it?
ReplyDeleteBecause he is "donating " his time, 3:23 PM. That is what the Mt. Lebanon judge from Court of Common Pleas ruled in my case.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sending the photos. I included them in my latest post.
Elaine
When there is no information released to the public about the deer hunt, it silences the public ( including you, Elaine ) to discuss this issue in the community. This is a deliberate act to control and shield malfeasance.
