Jefferson's and Mellon's cafeterias are here:
Jefferson Cafeteria
Mellon Cafeteria
Update November 14, 2016 6:16 AM As a point of reference, I am including Upper St. Clair High School's inspection report. Upper St. Clair High School ACHD Food Safety Assessment Our high school cafeteria state of the art equipment should still be under warranty since it is brand new. Also, USC High School does not have a balance due.
Wow, a broken thermometer and no hand-washing sign. Such risk!
ReplyDeleteBroken thermometers lead to food poisoning. The Asian section was not warm enough. Storing bread in a garbage bag that is not food safe? Ewww. Water pooling leads to slips and falls. If there is mayo in the cole slaw and it isn't kept cold, staphylococcus.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you have heard of salmonella, but have you heard of shigella? That comes from people not washing their hands after going to the bathroom. In other words, human waste. Guess what? Shigella can be resistant to antibiotics.
Also, food poisoning symptoms can take up to three days to show up. Many times people think they have the flu, when it may really be food poisoning.
Food poisoning is nothing to mess with. I'm surprised that you have such low standards for your kids.
Elaine
I didn't see in the report that the Asian section was not warm enough. The report mentioned the broken thermometer in the Asian section. A broken thermometer does not mean the food was kept at an unsafe temperature. That's why it was low risk in the report. Thermometer is obviously important to make sure the equipment is running properly.
ReplyDeleteStoring bread in a clean garbage is pretty minor. I'm not sure what's "ewwww" about a clean garbage bag. Most garage bags are low density PE, which is what most bread bags are made out of anyway. Wet and acidic foods would be more concerning. Food grade should be used, but, again, pretty minor. Water on the floor of a commercial kitchen is not very newsworthy.
If someone needs a sign to tell them to wash their hands, I'm not sure the sign is going to help much. They should have a sign to comply with the law, but who needs a sign to tell them to wash urine and fecal matter off their hands?
You sure have been busy submitting comments, 7:39 AM. Why are you so defensive? I published a report from the Allegheny County Health Department with no commentary except one word in the title. Is that worthy of a barrage of personal attacks?
ReplyDeleteWow.
Elaine
You published the report and provided commentary. I merely challenged your commentary and inferred that your comments exaggerated the risks posed by the deficiencies, which is also supported by the report identifying them as low risk. Challenging and questioning a viewpoint is not a personal attack.
ReplyDeleteI have not published the personal attacks.
ReplyDeleteI only posted 7:39 and 8:14. I didn't post anything else. I've met you at Commission meetings, Elaine. I like you and your blog. I appreciate you challenging our local government and feel that doing so is important, even if I don't always agree with the position. I thought your comment at 6:50 was over the top for what appears to be a very typical, routine inspection report. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think about medium risks? Mellon Middle School ACHD report
ReplyDeleteElaine
Mt. Lebanon has rats as big as cats. They can just hang out at the Mellon dumpsters. I know. It is just a low risk.
ReplyDeleteElaine
Medium risks OK? How about high risks? Am I still over the top?
ReplyDeleteJefferson ACHD
Elaine
Low, medium or high, a risk is still a risk.
ReplyDeleteNo, no, no Elaine, we don't needs those rats at Mellon which is right up the street from me. Keep them down on Cedar near the ball fields.
Nick M.
No, not over the top. Keep speaking truth to power! Warm pudding is the perfect metaphor for the complacency of Lebo government.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, while we waste money on fool's gold, taxes going up AGAIN:

Why does the Mt. Lebanon Senior High School Cafeteria show a balance due of $480.00 ?
ReplyDeleteBack in March 2015, the $480.00 was assessed for the new facility.
ReplyDeleteI bet Dr. Timmy is arguing that it isn't a new facility.
Does he really think there was always kitchen equipment in the South Gym?
Look through the inspection reports over the last year and a half.
One might feel safer eating out of the dumpsters.
