Yet another letter opposing the Timmy Ticket

  1. I have serious doubts these come from teachers. They are legitimate concerns. But I have serious doubts they come from teachers.

  2. Why are you assuming that this came from a teacher? Just because of the address? There are aids, secretaries, custodians, volunteers, other PTA members, crossing guards, cafeteria workers, construction workers...

  3. So you don't accept anonymous comments but you'll publish anonymous letters?

  4. For this topic, Anonymous, I have been accepting anonymous comments. Where have you been?

  5. 6:09, why do people constantly insist on trying to control Elaine's blog?
It's hers and she is entitled to allow any comment she damn well chooses.
I do find it funny though that you'd question her anonymous posting policy while making your comment anonymously.
    Why are YOU hiding?

  6. The Mt. Lebanon teachers who earned their jobs legitimately should be disgusted by Cappucci getting her son a job with the district illegitimately. Absolutely disgusted.

    ReplyDelete
  7. If Cappucci's son is "over qualified" why can't he get a job on his own in another district? Say Upper St. Clair or Peters? that way he is still close to his Mama

  8. From what I understand, the subject of Elaine Cappucci running for school board director again was brought up at the March 8 MLDC meeting.

  9. It is unbelievable that more residents are not alarmed that Ms. Cappucci is trying to get back on the school board.

I am curious WHY? is there something that the TIMMY TICKET is trying to conceal? If new people get on the board the information will come to light?

I think it is deplorable in this day and age NEPOTISM is alive and well in Mt. Lebanon.

If Ms. Cappucci continues her quest to get on the board her son should be forced out...

You can't have your cake and eat it too!

  10. 2:01 while I'm pretty confident that Ms. Cappucci's time as a director influenced her son's hiring I won't go as far as to rogue that her son should be let go.
On the other hand I'm deeply concerned that Ms. Cappucci has the ability to be objective should she return to the board on matters like salaries, sports , healthcare, etc., etc. and therefore will not vote for her return to the board.

  11. Ah, yes. If a young teacher's mother acts on her own and does something he should be fired from her job. Do you realize how stupid that sounds, 2:01? Do you really think this way? Kinda sad.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Is the son Cappucci now taking the mothers job if she wins a seat on the board? 3:31 what you wrote makes no sense. You sound really stupid!

  13. In this community of over 33,000 comprised of many ethical, professional and community-minded citizens I find it funny that we're even considering Cappucci's re-election to the board. Is she the best we can dig up?
I've asked before and have as of yet to read a list of the Timmy Teams crowning achievements.
Sure, they oversaw the HS project, which in a deep investigative audit might be found to be overbudget and late. Taxes have risen rapidly and by most measures their have been few increases in achievements.

I'm still open to arguments that Cappucci, Remely and Birks are necessary and essential directors.

    ReplyDelete
  14. They are only necessary to keep Timmy's skeletons buried. If there are new people on the board the skeletons will come out of the closet!

  15. Sorry 6:19. I am sure you have never made a typo! If you read the comment before, which stated that the son should be "forced out" if she is reelected, my comment would have made more sense. One of my pronouns was typed incorrectly. I simply meant that a young teacher should not be "forced out" just because his mother acts on her own. Sorry again for the typo. I'm sure you are perfect. Have a nice night. I'm actually very smart! Thank you, Elaine (G) for continuing to provide a great forum for discussion!

  16. We have all heard the stories. "My child would love to be a teacher but there are so few opportunities in Pittsburgh. Especially in good districts. Especially if they want to teach Social Studies. They have to substitute teach for years and years or move out of state. They are forced to go down South and make next to nothing."

Not if you are Cappucci's son. He was on board fulltime with Mt. Lebanon teaching Social Studies by age 24 making $51,000 a year with good benefits. Now mom will have his back until he is tenured at age 27. The idea that this is ok or fair or acceptable is just plain wrong. It's just awful.

  17. 8:56 PM, my son went to school with Elaine's son. My son is 26. Are you sure Elaine's is only 24? I don't think you have that right.
    Elaine

    ReplyDelete
  18. 8:56PM might be off a year. 8:56PM is right about everything else. He should not be a teacher in the district and Cappucci should not be involved in negotiating her son's labor contract or evaluating her son's boss. It's ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It is unethical. The fact that she just might pull it of does not speak well for Mt. Lebanon. It would be transparent if all applicants would post their CV remove the name and let the community judge. If Cappucci is so great he will not have to worry if the citizens of Mt. Lebanon look at all the cv of the applicants for that job.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I didn't understand what 8:07 AM was referring to when mentioning, "CV." sigh.

"Like a resume, a curriculum vitae (CV) provides a summary of one's experience and skills. Typically, CVs are longer than resumes – at least two or three pages."

  21. I have heard that all open positions are first posted so the school board can see them. There is one job...the History job that was never posted first to the board. This is not the way the school district should conduct business. Timmy this is flat out WRONG. Honestly you did not do teacher Cappucci any favors.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm sure you all would judge the CVs very objectively lol

    ReplyDelete
  23. 8:07, I disagree. Cappucci resigned from the board before her son was hired so the letter of the law was followed.
Did her position on the board influence her son's hiring, of course it did. Many people use their influence - PTA moms, donors, Blue Devil Club officers, yearbook and sports book ads, etc., to get their kids choice teachers, playing time and such.
Anyone that doesn't see it is blind.

Shouldn't be that way, but it is.

Now, shame on us if we let Cappucci back on the board to oversee her son's prosperity in the district.

  24. 11:11 AM lol, 11:15 AM, and all,
You are forgetting the most important piece of the puzzle. Timmy's amended contract, which was approved the month before Elaine Cappucci resigned. https://lebocitizens.blogspot.com/2016/06/are-they-f-ing-crazy.html

Not only should we not vote the Timmy Ticket into office, we need to terminate Timmy.
    Elaine

  25. That is an excellent point Elaine!
If there was a quid pro quo, and I firmly believe there was either spoken or understood, you are correct they both should go. Maybe all five, Cappucci, Steinhauer, Remely, Birks and young Cappuccini.
Proving the existence that there was a quid pro quo would be difficult.
The easy path is just to not re-elect the Timmy Team.

    ReplyDelete
  26. My belief that there was, I referred to it as a quid pro quo, was a bit strong, it could be something much less sinister such as a mutual appreciation between the parties involved. Nothing illegal there, nothing patently unethical and as I wrote earlier these kind of relationships exist almost everywhere.

I might give a close friend's kid a job over some unfamiliar candidates simply because I know the parents, like them and believe they passed their standards onto to the kid.

I don't know if you can prosecute that type of relationship legally or socially.

As I said earlier, there is one way to avoid the whole issue in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  27. To play Devils Advocate, there is another possibility here.

Young Cappucci could actually be a great teacher and football coach and we'd have to thank School Director Cappucci and Superintendent Steinhauer for his hire.

    Does anyone feel that way?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dear Devil:
The issue is NOT whether young Mr. Cappucci is a good teacher and/or a good coach; the issue is whether mother Cappucci's run to regain her seat on the school board is ethical, given the circumstances that led to her resignation and her son's subsequent hiring, and whether mother Cappucci demonstrated a lack of clear judgment when she announced her candidacy. The fact that other people use influence to get their relatives or friends into jobs must be weighed against whether the person exerting the influence has a vested interest in the outcome, and the type of organization involved. Using your influence to get your son a job in a private, for-profit business is tempered by the harsh realities of competition in the free market; your son will have to produce or he'll be gone. But so-called "public service" jobs are not subject to economic realities; whether your son is good or bad is irrelevant as long as there is a union to protect him and taxpayers to be shaken-down. Again, young Cappucci's abilities are not the issue; the issue is his mother's extremely poor judgment. What mother Cappucci should do is withdraw from the race and let her son have his career without the tincture of suspicion hanging over his head. A seat on the school board should not be more important to Ms. Cappucci than her son's future.

    Publis

    ReplyDelete
  29. Publis, Cappucci's name will still be on the ballot, even if she withdraws. Remember when T. Michael Brown was running in the Ward 1 commission race five years ago, but withdrew because of the skeletons in his closet? He still got hundreds of votes, even when John Bendel was running alone. John Ferguson won even though he had passed away. We have to let the public know about Cappucci.
    Elaine

    ReplyDelete
  30. Publis you make excellent points about the difference between a private business career and one in public service like teaching that I hadn't considered.

Elaine's right we must not let Cappucci get re-elected.
