It's a new beginning in Mt. Lebanon. Thanks to all the readers who checked my blog in the last two days. I received almost 2,500 hits!
I need to take a short break. I will check for comments, but less frequently.
Thanks for understanding!
Elaine
Well deserved, thanks for all your reporting.
ReplyDeleteContrary to the Rs and Ds impression that your blog doesn’t reach people the numbers show it does.
A well-deserved break!
ReplyDeleteWhen you're back, I would like to get on your calendar to come visit you for an hour or so for my interview of you in late November ... for my final BtB in December....
You blog makes me do my research! Thank you. I may not agree with some of the reports but it made me read more and make my own decisions. Please read about issues from both perspective, isn't this what we (should) teach our children? Best advice I ever got from a teacher was, if you want to truly defend your position, tell me why you should do the opposite, this makes your decision very clear. Please educate your self on all view points. We are smarter than it appears.
ReplyDeleteJason, I am sorry that you will not be renewing your "contract."* I really don't want your last Behind the Bubble to be about me. I know how boring it is to read about Susan Morgans every month, so I am going to pass on your idea. How about writing a piece on the new school board? Or do an interview with the directors? I know you approached Timmy with no response, but this new board is all about transparency. I bet they would love to spend some time with you.

*For those of you with no sense of humor, there was no contract. Jason could have been earning $25 with every story submitted as a Lebo (Citizens) Life Blogger just as the PIO pays their Lebo Life Bloggers, but Jason was nice enough to write excellent monthly features with me for free.
Interestingly if you compare the number comments to most Lebolife articles to Jason’s BtB, more people get into Jason’s writings.
ReplyDeleteFull disclosure: I wrote that 1:40 PM comment half asleep. Jason could have been earning $25 with every story submitted as a Lebo Life Blogger. I pay nothing. ;)

Elaine,
ReplyDeleteBefore you take a break. Please help to educate me on this matter that was just brought to my attention. Apparently for years the commissioners have been requested to help with a security guard to help the Library with the rush of after school students. Some of these students do not follow rules. Now the new director is advocating the idea of a Teen Librarian with expertise in teen outreach to help with library control and support students after school in a positive way. This Librarian could provide tstudents from upper elementary school to high school. Plus, have possible involvement with the district to ensure that kids are utiltizing their time in the Library effectively.
Please educate on both sides of this possible proposal. Is this a new expense that outweighs alternative options. What are the alternative options? Who will fund this librarian? Will this be supplemented by the district? Has this even been discussed at commissioner meetings? This new education i have been receiving from this Blogg is eye opening.
How should people educate themselves on these matters?
Eager to Learn
"Eager to Learn," I came back from my break a little earlier than expected. So you missed it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI saw how Kelly Fraasch had posted something about this on one of the Mt. Lebanon FB groups, maybe on "Just" a Mt. Lebanon housewife. It was confusing at first because some were thinking Kelly was suggesting a teenaged librarian, but she was asking about hiring an adult librarian with expertise in teen outreach. I don't know anything about the subject, so I would suggest the following. Write to your commissioner and pray that you will get a response. Write to the manager, Keith McGill and hope that you get a response. Finally, look at the 2018 Manager's Recommended Budget and see if there are any funds available for such a project, starting on page 50/92 http://www.mtlebanon.org/DocumentCenter/View/15663 The public hearing for the budget will be held on Tuesday, November 14 starting at 8 PM. I suggest you ask your questions at that time. Word of advice, you have five minutes to speak. Ask all your questions and then wait for answers. Too many people make the mistake of sitting down when they are thanked for their comments. Don't let them off the hook that easily!
