  1. Rick Saccone conceded defeat to Conor Lamb tonight.

Are Mount Lebanon Democrats going to support pro-AR-15 rifles Lamb or will they go Ray for PA?

  5. Let’s hope that the newbies who call themselves progressives will be able to truly understand what is at stake in our schools without an assault weapon ban. If we care about our children—-the very future of our country—-we will give Ray a chance.

  6. I am already tired of Conor Lamb and he won’t even be sworn in until April.

  7. I dislike guns, dislike Rothfus, like a majority Dem Caucus, like primary candidates that are electable as general candidates in swing districts, dislike ideological outflanking, dislike single issue voting, dislike this president, like the prospect of Nunes being in the minority in the House Intel committee, and dislike Pelosi. In short, I like Conor Lamb, the most likely to beat Rothfus.

  8. You may be right, 6:53. If this was Lamb's first election coming up in May, the playing field would be even. As it is, he has a leg up. Nowadays, everyone knows his name. But he is lackluster and empty. I am crossing my fingers for Ray. He seems to have a good grip on all the issues and the correct stand on banning assault weapons. Take a look at his web site.

What is ideological outflanking? What does in mean in this context?

  9. Conor Lamb has a lot of catching up to do to meet the reasonable demands of a new generation that is just graduating from high school. They have more sense on guns than all of those old timey politicians. These kids are the REAL progressives.

  10. Ideological outflanking is being more ideologically extreme in primary elections. Of course you'll find people to the left of Lamb. But if those people appeared in the general, they'd get creamed.

Voters need to be pragmatic and learn to compromise. We have someone in the White House who denies global warming, who is in the NRA's back pocket, and whose foreign policy is an embarrassment, all because the Dems ran a candidate that appeals to 50% of 50%.

Our commander in chief bragged on Twitter two hours ago about using the stolen Cambridge Analytica Facebook data. He has three active sexually related lawsuits. An ex CIA head is convinced Russia has something on him. His Cabinet is a revolving door. Many on his campaign have been indicted. He praises dictators, whether Putin, Duterte or Xi. All of this because the Dems ran a woman with more baggage than a bellhop.

  12. 9:20,

Here's the thing. I read in a NYT article after the special election that certain people voted for Lamb because he "was like a Republican." Hell, every dem is to the left of Lamb. But, he was the dem's only choice. Not anymore. Wake up, Democrats.

  13. I hope I can save some time for folks who want to change their party affiliation. The application is here. https://www.pavoterservices.pa.gov/Pages/VoterRegistrationApplication.aspx The deadline is before April 16, 2018.

  14. I NEVER thought I would do this, but I just changed my party affiliation. Ray for PA!

  15. 10:38, you make no sense. I'm left of Lenin but also understand that being a registered Democrat is a responsibility to vote for the candidate that will best appeal to all voters, whether Democrat, Republican or independent. Salesmanship is our duty.

Our country is in the mess it's in because we're ideologically a barbell: big masses on the wings and no one in the middle. I will vote for Blue Dogs and RINOs, because I want rationality and compromise, not ideology.

  16. Way to go-go, Elaine. Dem for a day to vote for Ray.

  17. The new national momentum against gun violence is being led by those who are getting shot at—not ideology.

  18. Big masses on the wings? From how many Dems in Congress have you heard the word “impeachment?” I can only hope and pray for wings of that type.

Ray Linsenmayer supports Assault Weapons Ban legislation. Conor Lamb does not. You might come back with your dislike for single issue voting, but I agree with much of what "Ray for PA" has to say.
What makes you so sure that Lamb is most likely to beat Rothfus? You have the school shooting generation coming to the polls now.

    1. Ok, great. Bill Clinton was the president 20 years ago.

And I'm sure you were outraged at the Monica situation, but are cool with Trump's behavior.

      A+. You really got me.

  21. Sorry, 18 to 29 year olds don't turn out, especially in midterm years. Looking at 23% of eligible millennials, tops.

I want a Democratic majority, period. Most important issue is preventing the GOP from sabotaging the free market's shift to renewables. Trump has it in his brain that subsidizing coal will push him over the edge in purple states. That's part of today's China tariff announcement. He knows that making Chinese solar panels more expensive will prevent a mine or two from closing. We need the numbers in the House.

So, rationally, I want to short circuit all the single issue voters on the other side of the fence. I want the Beaver County hunter to vote Democratic, knowing that anti gun Dems will still pick Lamb over Rothfus. It's called coalition building.

It's foolish to think that voting for an anti gun candidate in the primary will help. It won't. It'll just make a GOP winwmore likely, a Democrat majority less likely, and thus nationwide gun control less likely. Without a majority, a gun control bill won't even reach the floor.

  22. 2:17—remember that it was Bill Clinton who signed the assault weapons ban (only so W. could let it expire ten years later.)

  23. 2:26 PM, so it isn't enough to be a Democrat. It has to be a Democrat who votes for your candidate. Voting for anyone else is just foolishness.
    Elaine

    ReplyDelete
  24. 2:26---You talk about Conor Lamb as though he has been the incumbent Dem for 16 years. Why? Here's the deal. Conor was not the most electable candidate at the democratic caucus in November. He won the special election by a hair. He's nobody, at least not yet.

Conor Lamb will not help gun control reach the floor of the house. And, if it does get there, he will vote against a ban on the type of weapons that are killing our school kids on an almost weekly basis. I prefer to vote my values. I am not a salesperson. I am a Democrat and I care about the future of our children. They are the only ones making sense nowadays, anyway.

  25. I know a lot of single issue voters who only chose Lamb because he's so damn cute.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That has never been an issue with the Republicans, 5:19 PM. :D

  27. That's for sure, Elaine. At least when you take Rothfus into consideration. You are so funny.

  28. 2:26 PM, will you be at the March on Washington Road on April 20th? Will you be there to tell the kids that "It's foolish to think that voting for an anti gun candidate in the primary will help." Will Conor Lamb be spreading that message when the kids march past his house?

I have always stood up for what I believe in, even if I am the only one standing. I will not vote for Conor Lamb or anyone else who will not support Assault Weapons Ban Legislation. Watching the KDKA video that I just uploaded of Mt. Lebanon students saying that they don't feel safe and have reached out to the students in Florida, just breaks my heart. Students in Florida were able to change gun laws when nobody else could. You are selling young people short for saying that they don't make a difference. That really angers me.

I am voting for an anti-gun person for the Primary. I have switched parties. Go ahead and say that I am a single issue voter. I don't care. Tell the kids how you feel about them at the April 20 march.

  29. Damn straight, Elaine. You just summed it all up. Do you think that Conor Lamb will have the chutzpa to be at the March on Washington Road on April 20th?

Do you think you could post that KDKA video? Thanks.

  30. Thank you, Elaine. I just went back to the blog's homepage and saw the KDKA video already posted. Can't wait to watch it.
