Outrageous

Years ago, I called Jordan Tax Service about their excessive fee. They said that Mt. Lebanon negotiated that. When I spoke at a commission meeting, I was told that Jordan was responsible. Now that the fee has increased, check your bill and see what percentage you are paying.

Another little factoid: Mt. Lebanon School District's budget is $98.9M. Upper St. Clair School District's budget is $83.6M.

  1. I guess I am the only one who finds this outrageous. It sucks to be on a fixed income, Folks.

    1. That’s what you get for voting Republican for 40 years.

  2. Our local government has been controlled by Democrats. I am not sure how my voting has any impact on the any of this.

  3. I'm not sure I understand the comparison with USC. For starters, Lebo has roughly 1,395 more students than USC, not to mention 3 more elementary schools and all that goes with them (teachers, supplies, utilities, etc). It stands to reason that the Lebo budget would be higher.

However, breaking it down even further, USC spends approximately $20,390 per student, while Lebo spends about $17,998. Based on those figures, if USC had the same enrollment as Lebo, their budget (based on their cost per student) would jump to a whopping $112 million, not to mention the need to add more buildings and teachers.

Again, I'm not sure what the point is of the comparison.

  4. Mt. Lebanon transports almost none of their students. USC transports nearly 100% of their students and it costs us millions and millions of dollars.

  5. I am well aware of the numbers. The deer haters would justify killing deer in Mt. Lebanon by comparing us to USC. Remember how I said that we are more densely populated than Upper St. Clair?
Mt. Lebanon has 5468 people/sq. mile.
Upper St. Clair has 1958.5 people/sq. mile.
That is not what the comparison is all about. We pay more in taxes than USC. Folks can downsize and move to USC, 4:53 PM.

  6. Perhaps, but I don’t know anyone who ever moved to Mt. Lebanon because it was inexpensive (unless they were coming from NY). Let’s be honest - USC has turf and they cull. They have the same gnarly issues we do. To suggest otherwise is silly. Perhaps the only difference that I can see is that USC still has some strong Republican leadership. They get things done. They don’t allow themselves to be delayed, sidetracked and misguided by a smallish group of residents who opppse spending another nickel on anything that isn’t roads, sewers, police and fire.

As for downsizing in USC, that might be a stretch. When I downsize, I’d like to be able to ditch one of my cars and walk to a business district and public transportation. I don’t want to take care of a lot of landscaping, and of course I’d like a smaller, more affordable house. USC has very, very little housing stock that satisfies those basic criteria. Getting a smaller tax bill isn’t the only criteria to downsizing, but in Lebo I actually CAN find a smaller home with a smaller yard, next to one of a couple business districts and public transportation AND lower my tax bill.

  7. YES! Please go fight Jordan Tax Service for us! I'm sure they are the ones responsible for the increase.
