Friends and Family -
I was recently contacted by the media regarding my interest in the upcoming vacancy in the 42nd state house district. To keep it short and sweet, I will indeed seek my party’s nomination for that position.
During my term as Commissioner in Mt. Lebanon, I was honored to receive so much support and pleased to work in a bipartisan way. We were able to make long-term investments in our community and increase government transparency while achieving greater fiscal responsibility. This is why a diverse coalition that includes Democrats, Republicans and Independents is already forming as I make these next steps.
The initiatives I spearheaded in Mt. Lebanon made our town stronger, bringing people together over common goals. I intend to fight for those types of issues in Harrisburg and remain a strong voice for education and quality jobs.
Kim and I spent a lot of time discussing this step and I can assure you that I will not be away from my family to avoid tackling the challenges our state faces. I will seek compromise where I can, and work every day to move the ball on issues that strengthen and grow our middle class. I am not interested in gridlock and I have no intention on being a silent advocate for this community. If given the opportunity to serve again, you will know where I stand.
We will make a more formal announcement once the process actually begins, but I wanted you to hear this from me.
Hope you all had a great holiday!
Best,

Can't think of a better candidate! Go, Dan, go.
Dan Miller he's our man if he can't do it no one can. Congratulations on your nomination. You are honest, open and have the skills to accomplish much. Watch out for the legislators who are in Harrisburg already who try to ignore you like they ignore those of us that don't agree with them. There aren't many good people in legislative positions anymore. The word corruption comes to mind when I think of government. With you there maybe there is hope for this Commonwealth. I’m so sick of paying taxes for nothing but being told you have to pay more fees and taxes. I don't want my hard earned money redistributed to food stamps, subsidized childcare, free phones with 250 minutes and unlimited texting. I have to pay for my own food, childcare and phone service and I can't afford to pay for other folks who don't work. Oh sorry there aren't enough jobs for folks who want to work. I'm tapped out...the wallet is empty. I support education too but not the benefits and pension teachers and state and federal employees get. The private sector jobs do not get that liberal of a pension (if any) or benefits. Teachers and government employees know they have it good and will fight to the finish to keep the money flowing into their pockets. Pay them a fair wage and a bit more but not the amount they get now it’s too much. If this country was number 1 in the world in math and science then maybe they could get a raise.
I agree completely with 3:50PM. Dan Miller ROCKS!
I'll look forward to hearing, "State Representative Dan Miller".
I can't say I agreed with Dan on everyone of his votes as commissioner, but there hasn't been a local official that has been more accessible, respectful, honest or worked harder, in my opinion.
There are a couple following in his footsteps possibly, but at this time Dan sets the bar pretty high.
I've always felt that Dan Miller was on our side. He made me feel like he was always interested in hearing what I had to say; and Dan was never arrogant in any way.
For me it's a matter of character. Dan Miller ROCKS!
This is what seperates Dan from losers like Raja that only care about themselves!
Miller rocks, but let's not go negative, it doesn't fit his character.
"If you’re going to run a fine upstanding campaign without slanderous remarks, you’re not going to win.”
I guess Matt Kluck thought of that AFTER he circulated a letter bashing Matt Smith and supporting Raja, one of the dirtiest campaigners in recent memory.
Good luck Dan.
Dave Franklin
Just when you think things couldn't be more divisive in the bubble... someone comes up with a way to be agreeable while being disagreeable.
Thanks Mr. Franklin.
Dan's the man!
Nothing else needs to be said.
Oh yeah, Jo: Don't even think about it.
Speaking of Jo, do you think she'll go for her third consecutive presidential term on Monday?
My money is on Mr. I'm Excited.
That Trib article on the district race... is it poor reporting by the paper or is this an example of local republican inepitude? Or did I miss something?
From the article:
"Republicans should have hope of retaining the Senate seat, because nearly 48 percent of the district’s voters supported Mitt Romney for president, said GOP consultant Mark Harris of Mt. Lebanon, managing partner of Cold Spark Media."
The seat in question is Matt Smith's PA House seat. Matt is a democrat and is vacating his house seat because he won Pippy's (R) empty senate seat.
So the republicans already lost the senate seat and can't retain a house seat they didn't have. Could someone explain Mark Harris's comment?
LET ME PREFACE: I'm a democrat that voted for Smith. BUT Negative campaigning never took place in Raja vs Smith, they both presented facts sometimes elaborated. Kluck's letter told the truth. NO ONE has said a word about Matt Smith poking Matt Kluck in the chest at the galleria and threatening him after the election, "You better not run for Dan Miller's seat." FIRST OFF, why is Dan Miller entitled to this seat? It's the poeple of Mt. Lebanon's seat, not Matt Smith's seat to give away. We need an open and honest election, not crony politics. If I knew Matt Smith behaved like a bully I wouldn't have voted for him.
Obviously, Matt Smith didn't take the letter well. If someone has it can they scan it in for a fact check? I didn't read it, but obviously no one knows who is watching in public places...
I don't remember anyone arguing that it's Matt Smith's seat to give away. Does he have influence in the local democratic party over whom they choose to run, you can bet your bippy he does. That's politics.
As for the Smith/Raja campaigns, I'm sick of hearing about them. Regarding Matt Kluck, he's stated he's not running, so what's that have to do with Miller or the vacant seat.
Miller seems to have a lot of people from both parties that find him a likable candidate. Will that change once the republicans find an opponent remains to be seen.
Smith v Raja wasn't negative? I'm sorry but that is utterly insane. I received about 20 pieces of negative mailers from Raja and some from Smith too. Didn't the Post say that Raja was the king of sleaze for making up numbers in his attack mailers and commercials? Kluck basically said that Smith deceived him about his political intentions. If that is true then perhaps Kluck would be good enough to give the details?
Anytime someone says "I'm a Democrat or Republican and I voted for X candidate BUT..." you can pretty much guarantee they aren't and didn't.
If Matt Kluck cared enough to send a letter out to everyone in Mt. Lebanon against Matt Smith I'm sure he can explain how he was "threatened" by the same person at the mall. This "story" seems to be changing daily. And the last time I heard, aren't Dan Miller and Matt Kluck best buddies anyhow?
I am lost, will someone please post this letter? What was said and was it valid or not?
Dan and Matt Kluck are friends. I am friends with both of them. I supported Matt Smith. I received Matt's letter supporting Raja. I am not a fan of Raja's. I no longer have the letter, but I don't remember seeing anything more than Matt sending a letter from the Republican Committee endorsing Raja.
Can we get back to this election, please? Matt Smith won. Dan Miller is running. I have not heard of any R's running against Dan. I think that pretty much sums it up, doesn't it?
Elaine
It's not valid here.
Matt Kluck is not running for the PA House seat and the PA Senate race between Smith and Raja is over and decided.
Nor does it contain any info regarding Miller or some, as of today, unknown republican candidate.
So why chase it.
Chase it because of the bashing, why not fact check? Posters on this blog want to drag someone through the mud without evidence. It's the right thing to do - post the letter and let's have a look. Why not?
Unless it is the letter from Matt Kluck, I won't be publishing anything else about it.
Dave Franklin, perhaps you can come up with it, since you brought it up. Aren't you the one who always threatens with the legalese?
Elaine
That works, Dave, you brought it up "I guess Matt Kluck thought of that AFTER he circulated a letter bashing Matt Smith and supporting Raja, one of the dirtiest campaigners in recent memory. "
So, you should post the letter and let the readers fact check about the bashing. Oh, but you won't do that because it's easier to just bloviate. C'mon Dave, post the letter and let us decide for ourselves.
