New recycling regulations for next year

Recycling changes loom for Mt. Lebanon, other South Hills Communities
Starting next year, Mt. Lebanon residents will be unable to throw glass and select types of plastic into their recycling bins.
We will only be able to recycle plastics numbered 1 and 2. No glass bottles or jars will be accepted.  The article states that we can recycle cardboard. That is not entirely true. We cannot recycle pizza boxes because of the grease. I wonder about the grease in boxes containing cheese sticks, fries, or any other take out food. I think they are discriminating against pizza lovers. I'm offended.

We better not be hit with Pay as You Throw next. My recycling can is usually quite filled with glass jars and bottles. I have tried to be more mindful about recycling and now it is going to blow up in our faces. With our super duper Public Works that has gone waaaaaaaaaaay over budget and is behind six months, maybe we can have our own glass recycling program since we will have the space for it.

I'm still not over the stormwater fee. Mt. Lebanon started charging us a stormwater fee starting in 2011, so that they could control stormwater runoff in areas prone to flooding. Yeah, that's working well. Maybe we will hear more about how that million dollars a year collected every year in fees, in the September issue of mtl Magazine. We will get to see all the flood photos collected of this past June.

Western Pa. towns eye fees to control stormwater runoff
“During the past two years, I have been asked to speak at three different professional conferences on this subject and Mt. Lebanon's program,” said Mt. Lebanon municipal Manager Steve Feller. “Because of the stormwater fee, Mt. Lebanon has had the resources to initiate numerous projects to maintain and enhance the existing system and also expand the system to areas deficient of storm sewer infrastructure.”
Since Mt. Lebanon adopted the program, which raises about $1 million a year, Dormont, Whitehall and Scott have weighed potential fees, Feller said.
The bottom line is that we are paying for deficient storm sewer infrastructure while flooding is worse than ever and next we will hear that we have to pay more as we try to be green.

Philip Bianco Memorial Scholarship

Another strike against the charlatan, Tony DeNicola

You want a cull, Commissioners? Use real hunters says the PA Game Commission. https://www.outdoornews.com/2018/07/09/pennsylvania-game-commission-looks-to-force-towns-to-use-hunters-in-deer-culling/

You can no longer hide behind police officers to do your killing. You must use hunters, another blow to the guy who charges us $1352.81 per deer. You know, White Buffalo, a 501(c)(3).

Some have done so in a “robust” way, Raup said. Others meet the public hunting requirement using members of one particular sportsmen’s club. A few open things up to hunters passing a proficiency test.

Those situations are all acceptable, he said. Elected officials hiding behind a handful of police officers – so as to not to face opposition from anti-hunting constituents – is not, he added.
I hope you are finally waking up, Commissioners. Tony DeNicola was laughing all the way to the bank and made you guys look like fools. Oh, and no more hiding, Commissioners.

DeNicola loses out

The commission's agendas for Monday, July 23, 2018 have been posted.

Discussion session
Adjourned meeting

Consideration of a proposal for professional deer management services. The Municipality received proposals from two organizations for the provision of services to manage the hunters participating in the deer management program for the 2018-2019 archery season. The proposals are as follows:

 Bid Items
Suburban Wildlife Management Solutions $8,000
White Buffalo $9,000

Municipal staff has reviewed the proposals and deemed the low bid to be accurate. Recommended Action: Move to authorize the proper officials to execute the contract with Suburban Wildlife Management Solutions, LLC for deer management services utilizing archery for the 2018-2019 season.

The archery season for 2018-2019 is  Sept. 15- Nov. 24 and Dec. 26 - Jan. 26, 2019.

A little background on Suburban Wildlife Management Solutions. They can take the Wild Out of Your Life. Animal control is offered for skunks, ground hogs, raccoon, mink, muskrat, opossum, woodchuck, beaver, fox, coyote, rabbit, squirrel, mice, rats, chipmunk, and others! I wonder how the PA Game Commission feels about them. Deer was not listed.

White Buffalo archery results for 2017-2018 25 deer killed at a cost of $360 per deer. Tony DeNicola's White Buffalo charged Mt. Lebanon taxpayers $1352.81 PER DEER for their "sharpshooting" program. Original cost was estimated to be between $200-$300 per deer.

Except here

Inflation rises 0.1 percent in June, but consumers' paychecks weren't that much bigger either

We're fifty weeks away from the end of Timmy's contract. That also means that his 6% increase kicked in on July 1, 2018. In addition, his tax deferred supplement jumps up to 4% of his base salary. Throw in his bonuses that he has received.

And what do we get for this?
  • Years of deception with the Century of Excellence Capital Campaign.
  • Missing reports Latest Capital Campaign Summary, School Board Reports.
  • Attitude toward parents at school board meetings about the Gifted Program and the Capital Campaign
  • Superintendent Goals approved half way through the school year. 2017-2018 Goals were approved in January 2018.
I hope the School Board takes this into consideration when negotiating the new Superintendent Contract.

Goodbye, Timmy

Someone asked me, "What's the most difficult thing about owning a dog?" ...i replied, "the Goodbye."

Statement from Chief Lauth UPDATED

Photo of Mt. Lebanon Police Department Mount Lebanon Police Department Alert

Statement from Chief Lauth regarding yesterday’s Lebo Alert

On Saturday, we generated a Lebo Alert and social media post to advise the community about a rash of crimes that directly affected several of our residents. These incidents involved what was described as a white pickup truck with Virginia license plates and multiple actors who were engaged in home improvement scams and distraction style burglaries. As a result of the alerts, we received numerous tips and sightings of the suspects that will hopefully lead us to their identification and eventual prosecution for the crimes committed.

The sole intention of the Lebo Alert and social media post was to share information with our residents, however wording was used to describe the style of criminal activity that may have been considered offensive.  We sincerely apologize to anyone who may have been negatively affected by the description that was used. We understand and value the concept of intent versus impact. If our message impacted anyone negatively due to the choice of wording, the intent is overshadowed and our goal of sharing information was not as successful as it was intended.

At the Mt. Lebanon Police Department, we always strive to exceed standards in everything that we do. Unfortunately, this  Lebo Alert and social media post may have come up short of those expectations. We will do our best to reevaluate our policies, procedures and training to ensure that this type of situation does not occur again in the future.

Lastly, I would like to offer my thanks to our residents for your continued support. It takes the efforts and cooperation of our entire community to achieve the safety and security that we enjoy on a daily basis.

Sincerely,

Aaron Lauth
Chief of Police

I had been asking for more timely information on Mt. Lebanon Magazine's Facebook page, but they decided to wait until their SEPTEMBER issue to discuss flooding.

Elaine Trigg Gillen Seriously, what is Mt. Lebanon doing? There is nothing on the municipal website. Nothing about getting tetanus shots. Nothing about how to get rid of debris. Nothing about helping the folks in Bridgeville? You just want photos? Is this really a community with character? Disgraceful.

R's - what do you think?

Do you think your state representative should be protesting against a congressman?
