What does that mean? "Improved sight lines." On Jo Posti's Center Court blog, Supporting students, staff and families, Josephine writes about the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut and takes the opportunity to throw in a plug for the high school renovation.First, and foremost, I am deeply saddened by what happened on Friday. When I see children in stores or walking to school, I am reminded and burst into tears. I am thankful that the School District is offering support to our children and families. I cannot, however, comprehend that this is the time to justify the elimination of Building C. What does "improved sight lines" even mean? All I have ever heard from school board directors is that they will not revisit Building C. Now you decide to talk about it, Josephine? While I'm confident in the work our staff will be doing to reassure our students and staff and make any necessary improvements to our security measures, I'm also grateful for the work being done to improve the physical security of the high school. While construction is an inconvenience, the end result will be a reduced number of building entrances, the elimination of blind vestibules in B Building, improved sight lines by the elimination of C Building as well as many other security measures that could not have been anticipated when the building was originally built in the 1930s and subsequently renovated in the 1970s.

There are no cameras in Bldg C to spy on students.
The District has provided a link on their website, Resources for Parents.

Funny about 25 minutes ago, Fox news interviewed an ex-FBI expert that said small segmented rooms in schools are preferred to large open spaces since it slows down an attacker and gives people more places to hide since he has to go room to room to break in and find targets, giving police more time to arrive on the scene. Completely the opposite of Posti's argument.
Jo is in a easy position here. She didn't have to say a thing about the shooting. She isn't the President anymore. She is a regular Jo now.
I thought at first that she might be damned if she did (mention the shooting) and damned if she didn't. But the thing is, there is no hand to play on her part here.
Let it go. And don't use the shooting to ever ever ever justify a F'ING construction project!
Clueless.
To use a terrible tragedy to rationalize our HS project is tasteless.
As is using vulgar language to describe the project.
IMO
The district offering resources for parents that may not know how to talk with their kids about the event is a good idea.
4:25, yes there is at least one camera in Building C (not C Building).
It is right outside the library to capture the action before and after school board meetings when they were held there.
The school directors and staff should be checked for weapons to protect the public at meetings.
I would love for Jo to explain hoTether new science wing improves sight lines over those in Bldg. B. She could explain her comments, but it's highly doubtful she feel motivated to do so.
Look at the rendering for the science labs on the renovation site. They have the same recessed doorways as the oh so antiquated, "can't be brought up to 21st century education standards" building B.
If parallel site lines were a security issue in the original design, why didn't the board members just say that when they planned the Building C elimination?
I think Mrs. Posti was stepping on parents buttons to justify a bad decision. I do not believe her explanation.
