Fourteen flower beds are being planted by Littles Landscaping out of McDonald, PA for the amount of $36,895.88. Gateway's fees were not included in the cost of this project. I am hoping that deer resistant plants were used this year, another recommendation made by Sandy Baker. The biggest deer salad bars, she noted, were planted by the municipality. Deer would cross roads to get to these gardens contributing to deer/vehicular accidents.

Geesh, it'd be cheaper to buy the 5 deer-hating ladies flower beds every year than spend $75,000 per year trying to kill deer.
7:47---DITTO.
so they are using the historic district as boundaries for flower bed installations. so then what? are they going to do the same with snow plowing? how about street cleaning? sewer upgrades? police enforcement? should mt lebanon have sections now like south historic district, north historic district... like i'm out of the "cared about" section of lebo -- i'm south historic district -- all hell can break lose here. deer roam free here, children play outside, and the occasional dandelion can be seen in the distance.
What strikes me as increasingly odd is that at public meetings, and presumably private ones also, our commissioners--- three adult men and two adult women--- sit around and talk about deer a good percentage of the time. Deer.
I think it's much ado about nothing. Maybe that is why they spend so much time on the subject. Deer.
The pro-violence garden club of five women are just going to have to suck it up. There are competent therapists out there who may be able to assist those five in finding some non-violent purpose in life. Perhaps, volunteering would fill the void. I wish them the very best.
Come to think of it, I guess the five deer ladies could devote their lives to something violent. I need not force my non-violent views on them. I just hope that that they practice their violence in a more appropriate venue. Maybe the military would suit them. I think the military requires work, though. That could be a big hurdle for the group of five.
Yes, the municipal planting beds had better contain only deer-resistant plants. To think that the municipality was paying all that money for deer-loving tulips, etc. --- and for years---- was/is completely irresponsible on the municipality's part.
Just curious... are these flower bed installations considered a "cut back"? The muni formerly paid for flowers in all of the parklets/etc, right? Is this cut-back a reflection of Mt Lebanon's financial state, which Feller assures us is excellent?
The taxpayers paid Gateway $6269 in August 2014 for their part of the flower bed designs. I'm sure the total is more since then.

Maybe we should seed the Crown Jewel.
1:45---That sounds rather racy. :)
I don't get how there are 14 flower beds... the updated listing of Gateway bids has repeat locations. Is there another list of the 14 gardens?
