School taxes increasing .40 mills

At the May 11, 2015 School Board Discussion Meeting, the Board discussed the Proposed Final Budget that includes a .40 mill increase with an operating budget of $91,643,749 at a millage rate of 23.55 mills. The Proposed Final Budget reflects a decrease from the .42 mill increase in the budget presented at the April 13, 2015 School Board meeting. The decrease in millage is the result of updated revenue and expenditure projections. This budget also requires the use of $750,000 of the fund balance and a reduction of approximately $500,000 in expenditures, including the reduction of three support staff positions. Additionally, the school district will not fill one support staff position and one teaching position due to retirements.

The 2015-2016 budget reflects a millage rate that is under the Act 1 Index limit of a .44 mill increase which is allowable according to inflationary guidelines.

The cost of the millage increase to a homeowner is $40 a year on a home assessed at $100,000. The vote on the Final Budget will take place at the May 18, 2015 Regular School Board meeting.

Has anyone checked to see what the County assessed taxable value of real estate was that Klein used in this final 0.40 mill increase budget was compared to what she used in her "fake budget" last November that the Board approved for submission this January that would have required a 0.54 mill increase & waivers ?

8:19 pm - i don't know that answer...i'd be interested though. anyone know how much the county real estate value has changed to allow for this .4 mill increase instead of the .54 over the course of just a few months?

Near the school board meeting room, there is a men's restroom.
There is only one (1) urinal in that restroom.
There are no other mens roooms nearby.
Why don't we have enough basic facilities in our newly renovated building to accomodate the community's needs?

7:52, the way the board is adding fees from student parking to labs just thank your lucky stars they didn't put a coin slot on the door.

If you want privacy maybe you could ask to use the Supers.

12:42 You must be kidding? A private privy for the privileged! Actually, I accept this as true, given the elitist thinking of the School Board members who brought forth the latest Taj Mahal, known as high school renovation.

This is curious.

According to the CAFR-Fiscal Year Ended 6/30/14 we had a teaching staff of 413.

http://triblive.com/mobile/8361436-96/teachers-district-board

According to the Trib 5/13 article on the new district budget: "The MLEA, which represents the equivalent of 420.5 full-time employees, voted to accept the contract at a membership meeting last Wednesday, said Jason Phillips, the union's chief negotiator. Both he and the board said the negotiation process went smoothly."

Did the school district hire 7.5 teachers between June of last year and now?  If not  who are those 7.5 "MLEA represented" people and what do they do in the district"

How many full-time people were represented by the MLEA in fiscal year ended 6/30/14?

Does anyone know?
