I'm writing a short advance of the deer management vote that will happen at tomorrow's commission meeting. Care to provide an update of where your Right to Know case stands?

What an ass. I think he is the only "reporter" who doesn't know how to look up dockets. Instead he feeds off of Susan Morgans. Here is his latest biased report. Mt. Lebanon commissioners to take up deer issue once again.
“But don’t think it would be easier this year,” he [Tony DeNicola] said. “We had great support and the [property owners] were fabulous. But [archers] killed 100 deer and look around the municipality — you can’t see a difference. They’ll need to kill more this year. Also, last year they shot the dumbest of the dumb deer on the properties we had access to. This time the deer will be educated.”Then there is what Susan Fleming Stroyd Morgans had to say.
Ms. Morgans said if commissioners approve the hunt, which would start in late September, parts of the public golf course, McNeilly Park and Robb Hollow Park likely would be included.No drama? Did she forget about Scott Township taking Mt. Lebanon to court over killing deer in Twin Hills? Nothing was said about promising anonymity, because they can't. My attorneys have taken that issue to Commonwealth Court. Of course, John Hayes would have known that, if he did some research.
“There’s been very little drama in comparison to what we all endured last time,” she said, referring to street protests and meeting disruptions that occurred near the start of last year’s controlled archery hunt. “There’s been very little comment on it at all.”

If he were writing about a terror shooting like Orlando, would he write that about the murdered victims? It's wildlife, he doesn't give a shit.
Why doesn't he try to find out why with over 200 deer eliminate in the community accidents went up. Nah, that'd take some real study!

Since the Commissioners don't read their e-mails and they don't share our safety concerns over Cross Bows, Compound Bows and High Powered Rifles around our homes with the PIO, I suggest that those citizens who are opposed to Lethal measures used to kill deer, should attend the Commissioners' Meeting tonight at 8:00PM and give Public Comment. I would also encourage all to put their NOT IN MY YARD SIGNS back up in their yards.
So do you think they've left out Twin Hills from the fall hunt since this is what Morgan's reportedly said, "parts of the public golf course, McNeilly Park and Robb Hollow Park likely would be included". If so, Scott won that battle, right?

Dear 2:19 PM---Agree with all that you wrote. As to your last paragraph, the answer is a simple one. Deer are not the cause of vehicular/deer incidents. So, why continue to kill them?

Susan Morgans is correct. There has been no stated opposition to the upcoming deer kill in Mt. Lebanon Magazine or the newspapers (P-G) that she controls.

Mr. Hayes writes: "After successfully reducing the municipality’s nuisance deer population last fall, winter and spring, Mt. Lebanon commissioners will meet this evening to decide whether to continue."
Ms. Morgan writes that the 2015-16 culling was a successful first step.
I guess if one's goal is killing a lot of deer they may be right.
But, if reducing deer/vehicle collisions was the goal, actual numbers (see quotes below) suggest the culls were actually abysmal failures.
"In 2008, Mt. Lebanon abruptly ended a sharpshooting program that was bringing down the number of deer, which many residents felt were becoming a nuisance as well as a hazard. For example, reported deer-vehicle collisions increased from 43 in 2013 to 73 in 2015. Commissioners wanted to reduce deer-vehicle collisions by 50 percent in five years."
"Although new deer crossing signs have been posted throughout Mt. Lebanon and a program combating distracted driving is underway, the number of deer-vehicle collisions is up slightly over last year’s total." (up slightly?)
So the obvious question for Hayes, Morgans and the commissioners is by what yardstick are they measuring success?
Would 150, 200 accidents indicate they exceeded their wildest dreams of reducing accidents by 50%?!

The ONLY basis that the commission has officially stated for killing deer is for the purpose reducing deer/vehicular accidents. The municipality's own statistics have now proven that killing deer does not help them reach their stated goal. So, they either have to discontinue the killing or publically state the real reason(s) for killing off the deer. End of story.

Last evening, as expected,the commissioners voted in favor of archery open season in Mt. Lebanon, starting next month. Get those padded vest ready for your kids' walk to school.
