Subject: School Resource Officer to Begin on Tuesday, April 3 @ High School
Dear Parent/Guardian and Student:
I am pleased to share that as a result of our ongoing partnership with the Mt. Lebanon Police Department a School Resource Officer (SRO) is being assigned to Mt. Lebanon High School effective April 3, 2018, until the end of the 2017-2018 school year. The officer’s role is to serve as a presence in the high school throughout the regular school day and strengthen relationships with students, parents, and staff. The addition of the officer is not in response to any specific issue but rather to improve upon the many safety measures already in place.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Brian R. McFeeley
Principal

Will the SRO be armed? Is he/she also a member of the MLPD?
My high school questioned this and stated that the school already has 4 campus managers.
11:05 PM, I'm not sure what you are saying. Is a school resource officer the same as a campus manager? If so, does that mean that there will now be five at the high school? Are they armed? Are they Mt. Lebanon Police Officers?

Elaine:
Unless I am missing something, the principal's letter that you posted, mentions nothing about the resource officer being armed or not armed or whether he/she is a member of the MLPD. We need to know.
Sylvia
Sylvia, I hope someone from the district will be able to answer your questions.
Elaine
The SRO will be an officer of the MLPD and will be armed.
8:10,
What/who is your source for this information?
I don’t know too much but I got the impression the campus managers watch out for student misbehavior. They are like a security detail without guns. What happened to gun free school zones? How long until middle schools get an officer?
Campus managers? Never heard that phrase.
