Football Coach Chris Haering resigned today to take a coaching position at Pitt.

Chris Haering, the football coach at Mt. Lebanon High School the past 17 seasons, has resigned to become an assistant coach at Pitt under new coach Paul Chryst.

Haering told the Mt. Lebanon players of his resignation today.

"I've known for a while, but it became official today. He turned in his letter of resignation," said Mt. Lebanon athletic director John Grogan.

Besides 17 seasons at Mt. Lebanon, Haering was Hampton's coach for one season. He also was a social studies teacher at Mt. Lebanon High School.

Haering won a WPIAL championship at Mt. Lebanon in 2000.

Penn State's problems reminds me of something.

I wonder how the case is going with the two football coaches here in Lebo.  I looked up the dockets and their summary trials have been continued.  The next scheduled date is February 8, 2012.  I am willing to bet they get off too.  Here in Mt. Lebanon, we tend to look the other way if it pertains to sports.  We just go after little old ladies from Pasadena.

"It's only common sense when you're dealing with children."

Looks like the city is cracking down on football coaches, assistant coaches and cheerleading coaches.

Harper ordered the leagues to conduct background checks on all adults who work with children and made clearance of those checks a requirement before they could receive credentials, which are required to be present on the field.
