Public Hearing for Sports Advisory Board

The agenda for Monday's Commission meeting has been posted.  We finally get to see the ordinance written for Bill No. 20-12,  The Ordinance Amending the Code of Ordinances to Establish a Sports Advisory Board. This bill was introduced on November 13, 2012 by Kristen Linfante, but was never posted since the link was incorrect. The public hearing for this new Sports Advisory Board, or as Josephine Posti likes to call it an ad-hoc committee, will be held on Monday evening.  It is number five on the agenda. Kristen will be moving to enact the ordinance after the meeting. Perhaps, this is how Dave suddenly changed his mind on shooting deer. The commission meeting starts at 8:00 PM.

In case you were wondering, the Joint Maintenance Agreement will be item number five on the Commission Discussion Session agenda.  That meeting starts at 6:40 PM.

I uploaded the podcast to the November Parks Advisory Board meeting.  I apologize for the quality of the recording.  The Director of Recreation recorded it for the purpose of writing the minutes of the meeting. Around the eighteen minute mark is when the voices start to get a little louder.  Dave Franklin is pretty easy to understand. I am reasonably sure he will be appointed as the Parks Advisory Board representative, don't you?

Oh of course he will be. Now there's one person with no predetermined positions, no bias and an opening mind on what recreation facilities the community should have.

"This is just one of the many ways the two local taxing bodies work together on a regular basis to realize cost efficiencies, share resources and provide support to each other. " - Jo Posti

You know, when Ms. Posti's right, she's right! This is a perfect example "of the two taxing bodies working together."
Jo thinks she's sending Kubit, Marciniak and Grogan to work with an ad hoc committee. And Linfante thinks she's forming an advisory board.
That's being on the same page, eh girls!

Doesn't Ed Kubit's participation on the Sports Advisory Committee (or is it an ad hoc committee) give one a warm and cuddly feeling that our tax dollars will be spent wisely?

From Lebocitizens last year:
"The Curious Case For Kubit" 11/7/11
"Next, let me talk a little bit about leadership.  During Mr. Kubit's year as President of the Board, he voted consistenly in favor of a high school project budget in excess of $113 million. In fact, one can easily argue that Mr. Kubit used his position as school board president to cheerlead the project even while the community at large consistently voiced very strong and loud opposition.  He even sent out a taxpayer funded FAQ to the community that argued in favor of the project. Mr Kubit cheerfully announced in the FAQ that he expected bids for the project to come in 17-25% below the budget HE VOTED IN FAVOR OF.  He wrote the following:

"The maximum cost would be $113,274,265. However, this does not take into account that bids on recent construction projects came in 17 to 25% below original estimates. Additionally we are working with our architects and construction manager to find waysto further reduce the cost through value engineer."

Well, the results of Mr. Kubit's leadership are in and, instead of coming in 17-25% below estimates, the project bids came in more than 25% OVER budget.  This is a total swing of $42 MILLION DOLLARS OVER BUDGET while following Mr. Kubit's lead.  The mess he has left us means more months of delay and more wasted taxpayer money while the Board cleans up the mess.  Here we are more than 9 months later and we are still waiting for the next round of bids for a cheapened high school project that likely will not include everything that was promised to the community for the large price tag."

From the USWCA website:

The Sport of Curling

Curling may be the "hottest sport on ice", since Americans discovered it during the winter Olympics. Curling is a team game, where all four members' efforts contribute directly to each shot. Depending on the event curling teams can be composed of both sexes and all ages, and like golf, sailing, etc., curling is a lifetime sport.

I certainly hope our recreational advisory board gets on the schtick! The hottest sport on ice, a lifetime sport for all ages and we don't have any curling facilities. How droll.

This seems like the perfect sport for The Bubble after reading some info from the Columbus Curling Club's website: "
After the conclusion of the game, participants are welcome to socialize in the warm room for a drink afterwards. It is curling tradition that the winner buys the loser a drink – we sell both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages."

If we're going to attached more young and affluent drinkers we're going to have to quit thinking so pedestrian.
