Why is there a need for additional security cameras in the athletic building? where all are there security cameras?

They're in the shower rooms, of course, operating 24/7. Don't want Penn State kind of issues in the bubble - people won't move here.

Reviewing all the change orders it qppears that all the parties involved in this project are completely perplexed by elevators, duct work andPiping and electrical connections!
Ductwork thru elevator shafts, missing power supplies, missing pipes to feed water to boilers.
Prior to the high school, what'd they build-- grass huts?

You're missing a few things from the photograph like a pacifier and the union card.

Thought part of the contractual responsibility of the Construction Manager, P.J. Dick, was to review all of the Celli architectural drawings and bid documents for accuracy and completeness (i.e. errors and omissions) prior to releasing them for bid purposes ?

There is another 18 months to go on this project, it's behind schedule and we've reached about 50% of the total allowance for change order cost additions. Traditionally, most of the change orders come during the last half of a project, particularly in the case of multiple prime rather than single prime contracts.

Thought the guy from PJDick said change orders came traditionally from the first half? I could be mistaken.
Think about this - we still don't know about onsite tennis courts, rifle range and what unforeseen problems that will crop up when they tear down building C.
Unfortunately, the board in their infinite collective wisdom decided to accept all problems uncovered in tearing down C, so those additional charges will not be considered change orders.
I'm betting there will be a ton of 'em!!!!

I hate to ask but is Rifle a popular sport in Mt Lebanon?

5:25, perhaps this article from the Post-Gazette will answer your question.

http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/local/neighborhoods-south/mt-lebanon-fundraiser-at-rifle-range-raises-2000-to-battle-cancer-680267/

You may want to consider asking the same question of football since the JV team had to forfeit a game due to the lack of players.

If you dare challenge football you'll invite the rage and rant of the two junk yard dog-attorney's Dave & Dave who will hound you forever.

Wonder if those two are exhibiting the latent effects of too many football concussions themselves ?

I wasn't 'challenging' anything, only stating a fact, that a game was forfeited due to lack of players.
To put it bluntly i don't give a rats _ _ _ about junk yard dogs.

Anyone notice that over used Mellon field was unused today for most of the afternoon.

Getting back to the subject at hand, for those "keeping score" be advised that "PL-23-177 to Vrabel for $15,171 for gas turrets, house traps [sic] and hose bibs due to unforeseen conditions" specified in the October change order listing for the high school reconstruction includes the gas turrets for the science lab described by Vrabel in PL-13-102 for $4,449.00, and which was redacted back in June. Also, although these CO's will be discussed at tonight's discussion session, they won't be voted upon until next week's business meeting, and are therefore subject to change.

With respect to change order frequency; most construction project change orders occur during the first half of a project, as this is when unforeseen circumstances are most likely to be encountered.

Change order required: the school district is now requiring parent volunteers to go through screenings that are about $48 total. But the district isn't paying for it. So now the parents are criminals? Last I checked on who has done what wrong around here, it wasn't the parent volunteers.

Wow, now you have to pay for the priviledge to be a volunteer, pay for your kids to park in a lot your tax dollars paid to build and pay even more so Tim can get a 7% raise for doing basically what he did last year.

5:25 check out the injuries in Rifle vs. Football.

Yes, you also have to pay to play a sport and sign off on your kid's life via FAMILYID. Oh, but yes, you do get your money back if your kid doesn't make the team....

The policies are definitely going to create a "haves" versus "have nots" with the pay as you send your kid to school here in Mt Lebanon.

But at least the walls of the weight room will have padding.

8:59 - where do I look for the injury differences in Rifle vs. Football. Please cut to the chase: is it a difference in concussions or being shot or... ?

At this rate, according to Dale Ostergaard tonight, we're going to run out of contingency funds in eight months.

As the result of a Right To Know, requested by and granted to me, I have reviewed the list of change orders and compared them to the list shown on this Blog. The total taxpayer money spent, as shown on the District's document, is within eight cents of the total shown on this Blog. The difference is due to the fact that the district dropped exact figures and started rounding to the nearest dollar early in the process. (For some strange reason the District did not round the follow CO: 7/24/12 GC-002 Nello Geofoam 82,360.57. This is why the District's total always ends in 57 cents. The District originally had been providing exact figures, which Elaine copied onto the Blog. This is why there is an eight cent difference between Blog totals and District totals.)

The following represents the latest accounting:
As of 21 October 2013 the total amount of public money spent on change orders comes to $2,134,671.57 (Blog shows $2,134,671.65).
Contingency*: $4,267,000.00
Balance: $2,132,328.43
% used: 49.97%
Average $11,859.29
Median** $6,606.50
CO Count 180
Note: The figures above represent 180 transactions as coded by the District, and represent both payments AND refunds.
*Contingency funds are included in the total project budget
**The median value is a number about which there are as many values above it as below.
~~
Sequestering the bills paid from the refunds received, the following figures apply:
Average CO $16,973.36
Average refund -$37,175.65
Median CO $8,264.00
Median refund -$7,516.00
