Shop Small Business Tomorrow

I refuse to go shopping on Thanksgiving and wish more people would do the same. According to the news reports, I avoided the madness. I spent today, Black Friday, supporting three small businesses and plan to spend a traditional Shop Small Business Saturday in Uptown Mt. Lebanon with my family.

This year, the Mt. Lebanon management decided to allow free parking on Washington Road, something that I have been asking for several years. Take advantage of the free metered parking and support all the wonderful businesses in our community.

Shop Small Business Saturday.

Unless Im buying hardware, a guitar or an Irish sweater, there arent any places in uptown that offer gifts. Or have I missed the electronics store, toy store, sporting goods store and clothim emporium that have been built?

Boy, do you sound like a grinch! There are what - more than a half dozen restaurants now?, gift certificates for spa services, a few gift shops, stationery stores, florist, fabric store, and a needlework shop, probably leaving out something.

Thank you for leaving your annual smart ass comment about the business district.

Keep in mind, there are other businesses in Mt. Lebanon besides the ones in uptown Mt. Lebanon that are considered a small business, for example, all the shops in the Galleria and the stores on Beverly Road.

A list of small businesses in Mt. Lebanon can be found at http://www.mtlebanon.org/businessdirectoryii.aspx

Sometimes too it's not just about spending your dollars at these local stores, it's about striking up a conversation with the owners and employees and getting to know them. Some of these folks just might be your neighbors.

Thanks, Nick.

We support small businesses all year long. We taught our kids not to pass up a lemonade stand without stopping. Our family tradition just happens to be shopping and have lunch on Washington Road.

Small businesses can't compete with retailers who offer Black Friday deals starting on Thanksgiving.

Please support local businesses.
