Whether you have a religious life or not, if you have a humble and respectful heart you know that the cull as it is being conducted is cruel. We are taught to appreciate and care for the gifts that we have been given. Like Richard, I am not opposed to hunting but I am opposed to this cull for the obvious reasons.
I doubt that local churches would step into this political issue, but it's worth a phone call. Let us know what you find out.

They're for the most past, just ordinary hardworking people just trying to get by in life the best they can.
I would though like them to know if they run an ad in MTL magazine or on Lebomag, they aren't reaching this Mt. Lebanon resident. Their ad dollars are wasted since the magazine goes from the mailbox to the trash can.

Benner said! Maybe Benner's people are doing the "illegal activity" so they have a convenient excuse as to why their "never been tried in Pennsylvania" corral & kill isn't working as they said it would.

The commissioners and the prokill, so called "elite" group want the deer to be cruelly killed and to suffer. They are angry and can't think rationally. Hey all.....I own club cycle...and NO member of mine from mt.lebanon stopped coming because of our sign. For you to say yuppie..I am offended for them. I appreciate your compassion. But please don't as far as calling out my members cause then I will loose them over your disrespectful comments. Me and my fiance both own Club Cycle and as young professionals coming from nothing we just wanted to take a stance. I am all for getting rid of the population but not the way they are doing it.

Club Cycle is one of few businesses left that have true compassion for what they do. The sign was not removed because any member complained. Lets refrain from name calling, I believe we are all adults on this forum. Im sure pro-cullers did complain, because they want this to happen more than anything, but keep looking at the facts.
Management forced them to take it down this morning. This is a violation of a first amendment right. If you believe in them displaying the sign, Call John Gallagher of Meyers Management. 412-563-4665. Demand they allow them to put the sign back up. He is the manager of these shops.
Also Club Cycle is on Mt Lebanon BLVD however it is in Castle Shannon. For a business to take a stance on something like this and help people get the message across is brave and admirable.

I was brought up in the 70's and early 80's and have a deep feeling for the deer and all nature that roam in my tiny little yard.. My highschoolers on the other hand think the deer are a nuisance and support the cull..and so do lot of their peers and of course their parents..To me their total lack of empathy is very very troubling to me..
I also spin at club cycle 5+ days a week. Regardless of my stance on this, I would hope that people are mature enough to have a conversation about such topic in any environment. I am not aware of who is anti-killing and who is pro-killing at spinning because we don't go there to talk about the cull. We go there to get a great workout with two professionals who have the same freedom of expression as the rest of us.

I'd like to add that people need to think twice about where they're going with boycotting businesses for their stance or lack of a stance on this cull.
Business owners aren't the problem.
The problem is with the cull, the reasons behind its implimentation and the police intimidation/commission propaganda to see it through.

If there are "vandals" messing with traps, where's the video footage from the high tech cameras? If there are so many criminals roaming the parks in Mt Lebanon, freeing wildlife, why the restraint from the police (i.e., "no incidents") and Benner (i.e., "no images")? Further, why haven't they been detained? Don't we have top-notch police here in Mt Lebanon?
2:50 We don't know why it was taken down. I don't think it's a good idea to cause problems with the manager for Club Cycle. Sometimes there are legit reasons and while its unlikely in this case, making life difficult for the cycle club is not a good idea. Business owners here are having a hard enough time dealing with this cull and Mt Lebanon - from a business owner.

Robb Hollow corral has been removed.
One of the golf course corrals has been removed.
Please visit all of the areas and confirm if they are gone for good, or just relocated . Let me know ASAP.

Update: Bird Park is still up. McNeilly is down. Robb Hollow is down. One trap has been removed at the golf course. Benner is trying to find better spots because they can't get any deer where they are. I don't know the status of Connor Road.

How does a deer run off from a closed corral that has to have meeting over the top according to the GC permit?

I'm not an expert at trapping deer but I have to wonder why they are re-locating the corals unless they decided to just give up and go back to Tioga County. I would think that keeping the corals in place would be more advantageous because according to the $12,000 expert, you need to train the deer for some time and now with only 13 days left how effective is it going to be to move the corals from one place to another. But like I said, I'm not a deer trapping expert.

Keep an eye out for clover traps when checking the corrals!
The clover traps are much easier to conceal.
If a deer was shot and ran off, the corrals, which are designed for HOGS, NOT DEER, may have failed, or they are shooting deer outside corrals and their claimed one-shot, one-kill, headshot proficiency is BRAVO SIERRA.

How do you know this? Is there a report some where? How can a deer in a corral be shot and escape??? The corral is totally closed in and net over the top? Something doesn't smell right with this story. Are they shooting deer outside the corrals??? Whose yard did it die in. This is a big story that needs to a press report.
So where do the rats go after they've consumed the last kernels of corn left behind by Brenner?
Why they'll head to the garbage piles that sometimes sit by the curb for days.

If they are setting up corrals in new sites, it will likely take a week or so to bait the deer to gain their trust, before they enter the corrals, and so they will likely still have one good chance of killing them before end of March, but not much more time.
We need to find out these new locations, so that parents and children can be given appropriate warnings to stay clear.

Sorry, but please stop talking about the first amendment when you clearly don't understand it. Private citizens and private businesses have the right to restrict speech. The first amendment restricts the government's ability to limit speech. I'm sure you don't see or understand the difference, but it distracts from the point that some are reasonably trying to make here to make pointless arguments.
Now if you have evidence that the local government is involved, that's another issue entirely.

If some residents are opening up their backyards for clover trapsand shooting, this could be an epic fail in the making.
No homeowners insurance on the planet will cover anything related to deer traps and killing in a residential area.
That means their ENTIRE net worth would be up for grabs. The house, investments, everything.

The school districts puts all safe walking conditions on the muni, but the PA School Code does not put safe walking conditions on the muni -- they require the school district to take action when their are unsafe conditions.

Benner removed the Corral at the McNeilly site today Wednesday March 18. He seemed upset. Police and Game Commission were there. He was throwing things and yelling. All the Corrals are being relocated in Mt Lebanon. No one knows where. Aren't you afraid for your safety?

6:42-----Rats are rats. Any idiot who leaves fermented corn on the ground for weeks on end will attract rats. This isn't brain surgery. I think that the traps with the rats need to be closed due to public health hazard. The rats will leave and the chipmunks will stay. We MUST address this rat problem in our parks.

I seen rats at that corral. I didn't know what to do. I don't live in one of the nearby houses but if I did, I would keep my kids inside the house.
First, while I think it's admirable to see the spin business have and express their opinion, I would ask posters if they would be as enthused had the sign said "Cull Is Cool". Probably not. Point is, it cuts both ways. I don't expect local businesses to take a political position. If they do, either way, I think it demonstrates poor judgement. Either you want to be in business to make money, or you want to grandstand. Pick one.
As for Benner moving traps to find deer, I would say "you can't find what isn't there, pal". Want to find deer? Pack your traps and head back north.
7:47. If police and PGC witnessed someone acting in an unstable manner, shouldn’t they be concerned about that person harming others or even himself? Especially if that person is known to be armed?
Did they take any precautionary measures, at least securing his firearms until he calms down?

These rats didn't travel to lebo in Brenner s luggage. They are anywhere where there are people. Walk in uptown on a quiet night and you'll see them scurrying behind the municipal garbage cans that line the streets. The corn is just giving them a new place to meet up.

I think that's a pretty oversimplified, and aggressive perspective. There's a lot of gray space for business owners as far as their "positions" on social, civic, environmental, etc., types of issues. If a business wants to make a statement about animal cruelty, it's... their business.
8:15 Why would you keep your kids in the house if you saw a rat? I can see telling your children to stay away from a rat or to tell you if they see one but I think the whole "come inside kids, it's dangerous out there" attitude contributed to this ordeal.
Remember there is an entire group of people who fear deer here in Mt Lebanon, reporting they have been attacked or charged by deer. Others are fearful if a deer looks in their window.
Imagine this solution for the fearful: work on your fears instead of trying to kill them. You can run, but you can't hide.

All was calm before the culling, and we want it to return to calm again. This issue may be political for the commissioners, or wash day talk for the residents, but it sure is embarrassing for Mt. Lebanon. We all hope business returns to normal after the cull, but there are no guarantees.
Mt. Lebanon commissioners may really be on the hot seat for this fiasco. They already paid out $12,000.

Very close to schools and homes, which is where they will scatter to when Benner finally picks up stakes and drives off into the sunset. Homes on Youngwood, Crescent are at high risk. So are their kids. This whole thing is a mess. It is the biggest train wreck I have ever seen in any local government.

Parents really do need to get their kids outside the bubble. Nature is not sold in a big box store, is not a game on Xbox and is most definitely not disposable.
All part of equipping them to survive once they are pushed out of the nest.

It's about letting kids get outside, run thru the woods, climb trees, skate board, play pick up baseball, football, soccer and make up their own teams, field boundaries and rules.
How many that grew up in the 60s and 70s remember playing wiffleball in someone's backyard?
You made up rules to make it work. Balls hit into mom's flower bed were automatic doubles. Balls hitting the telephone or electric wires were a do-ovrer, because you didn't have enough players you used pitchers hand for lack of a first baseman.
That's how kids learned to interact, to give and take, to problem solve.

10:14 am I agree with you that what you have described is an active, healthy, social, low-cost childhood. However, there is a very negative sentiment toward play and children in Mt Lebanon. There is a desire to cull kids from the streets.
Last night, I dreamt that my neighbor a few doors away who repeatedly called the police for me permitting my children to ride their bikes in the street (with parental supervision) apologized, acknowledged she was wrong, and gave me a hug.
But it was just a dream.
