Conor Lamb, did you happen to catch what was used to kill four people? We had Mondays with Murphy. We have Where's Rothfus? Wednesdays now. I wonder which day of the week will be chosen for your office.

Enough is Enough | Photos from Walk on Washington (Road) UPDATED
Conor Lamb, did you happen to catch what was used to kill four people? We had Mondays with Murphy. We have Where's Rothfus? Wednesdays now. I wonder which day of the week will be chosen for your office.

They had the backpacks on the ground on each side of the railing leading up to Washington School. They each represented a student killed in gun violence in America. It was chilling. Truly. Then, they read off names from the five worst school mass shootings. For each name, they placed a flower on the ground in front of the speaker. The speakers said a lot of great things. As they were rapping up, the student who was speaking said that they (the students) want Congress to do something or, they said, “VOTE THEM OUT.” Huge applause followed.
I was not there today. I'll ask you 7:17 PM, as well as the sender of the photos the same question. Was it well attended by the public?

Just curious, but was Conor Lamb there?
Elaine
I guess my question was answered in an earlier post.

There seemed to be a couple hundred people at this student-led event. Babies in strollers, school kids of all ages, and many, many adults.
Conor Lamb was not there.
Was Tony DiNacola there?
No, Tony was at AR-15 target practice with Conor Lamb.
MT. LEBANON, "A COMMUNITY WITH CHARACTER"
Where were the Mt. Lebanon students and parents when the commissioners were voting on allowing DeNicola to bait and slaughter deer in Lebo's parks and residents backyards with high powered rifles?
Where were they when Wildlife Specialists were bait and trapping deer in corrals and shooting them with AR-15 assault rifles?
Where were they when Wildlife Services were shooting deer with high powered rifles and one resident found a dead deer in a pool of blood on his front walk?
Tame doe and fawns are getting their brains blown out because a handful of pretentious cold hearted witches refuse to plant deer resistant flowers, and oppose non-lethal humane deer mgt methods, so that they can have their homes featured on Lebo's annual library tour.
This all looks a little hypocritical too me. Where are the protests opposing the use of lethal weapons in Lebo's parks and neighborhoods, that threaten the safety of all Lebo's residents, children, and pets?
The Humane Society of the United States have called Mt. Lebanon's actions inhumane. Where are the students and parents protesting animal cruelty?
Don't get me wrong. I fully support the students and parents protesting for stricter gun laws and outlawing assault weapons, but I see a major moral and ethical disconnect when these same students and parents aren't protesting and marching against the gun violence and animal cruelty that the Mt. Lebanon Commissioners have brought into their community.
We must not speak of the disconnect, 8:20 PM. You will be labeled as the crazy deer person of Mt. Lebanon, if you do.
We did have protests and had almost 400 yard signs in protest. But as Tony DeNicola advised the commissioners, the protests subside after the first year of killing.
Did you hear anything mentioned in commission meetings about the archery results? Nope. How about the "sharpshooting" where we paid $1352.81 per deer to be killed? Not a peep. It was never made public except here. By the crazy deer lady of Mt. Lebanon.
We had the superintendent of the Mt. Lebanon School District notify the parents of the high powered rifles being discharged in undisclosed locations with only a suggestion that children stay on sidewalks. SIDEWALKS. But I am the crazy deer lady of Mt. Lebanon.
Major disconnect, 8:20 PM. You see, it is ok because nobody has died. Yet.

8:20--I'm with you completely about the guns, the arrows and the deer killing. It is obscene and dangerous.
But let's give these students a break. They are doing SOMETHING about guns. Remember, too, that some or many or these students don't know a thing about the yahoos running around our backyards---on our dime---killing deer with guns. The municipality keeps it as secretive as possible.
Give these kids time and breathing room. Have faith in them.
8:20 Some of those students and families that didn't like what they were seeing moved away.
It is hard to tell if 12:51 AM's comment was said sarcastically or it was said sincerely. I usually hear, "If you don't like it, move." So hateful. But I am giving 12:51 AM the benefit of the doubt since there have been families who moved out of Mt. Lebanon for this very reason.

I know a Hanna real estate agent here in Lebo who told me that she had personally handled the sale of more than five houses in which the residents were moving to get away from the deer killing. She told me this about three years ago.
I have no doubt that the annual deer killing programs and negative press coverage have affected property values, and the interest of new home buyers in Mt. Lebanon. Who in their right mind would want to move their family into a community where the parks and neighborhoods have been turned into a private hunting preserve and shooting gallery? No one in their right mind would want to live next to or adjacent, from any angle, to a neighbor who has given permission to allow DeNicola to bait and shoot deer with high powered rifles (with all safety zones suspended) or bow hunt next to their home and back yard? I wish those 400 residents who had yard signs would put them back up and keep them up to warn new home buyers, who aren't aware of the shooting and hunting dangers to their family, to make them informed of the controversy and danger before they decide to buy a home in Mt. Lebanon. No doubt, the real-estate agencies and home sellers aren't disclosing these issues to new home buyers.
Oh, and the five house she sold were all in the same year.
11:57 AM, I know there is one on Bower Hill Road and another on Robb Hollow. If the students are willing to continue their protest before the next deer killing seasons, I am willing to donate any remaining yard signs to their group. And if they need more money, I know I can help raise it.

Talk about brave and inspirational Mt. Lebanon students. Below is a copy of an email that was sent to all of the Mt. Lebanon Commissioners a few years ago by a Mt. Lebanon student. She attended, accompanied by her mom, and spoke at an earlier commission meeting, but couldn't attend this meeting in person, but offered to speak again by conference call to have her voice heard. This student was diagnosed with PTSD i.e. she was a victim of a violent crime with guns involved. Needless to say, her voice and pleas to the commission were ignored. I X-ed out her name and address, because I'm posting and sharing w/o her approval, but thought her email and voice were appropriate for this thread topic.
"My name is XXXXX XXXXX, and I spoke at the meeting in XXXXXX regarding the deer culling program. I live at XXX XXXXXXXX XXXXX. Unfortunately I am unable to attend the meeting tonight but I still want my voice to be heard that I am in strong opposition to the deer culling program. Now I know that each side has presented you with facts and figures from various sources either in opposition or in favor of the program. But I want to urge of all you and take a minute to think about it what it really means to allow .223 hunting rifle or the AR-15 magazine-fed semi-automatic rifle, into our neighborhoods. Most people would become very uncomfortable if they saw someone carrying semi-automatic on Washington Road and there would be many phone calls to the police. The deer culling program will allow such weapons into our streets at night time, which is truly frightening. I can tell you from personal experience that weapons are not something to take lightly. I am the victim of a violent crime and guns were present during this crime, I have been diagnosed with PTSD and am continuing to recover from the event. For me to wake up one night after a bad dream and to look out my window to see someone carrying an assault rifle would make me feel very unsafe and not at home in my own house, in my own neighborhood. What you need to consider while looking at the deer culling program is that are the benefits of removing the deer from the area by method of sharp shooters worth the price of having citizens feeling unsafe and frightened in their own community. I honestly do not think that price is worth it and I urge you to instead educate residents on planting different plants, and other solutions that will not result in having deadly weapons in the neighborhood.
I would be happy to talk over the phone at the meeting. My mom said that she was coming and that she could call me from there but whatever way you think it would have the most impact let me know. My number is XXX-XXX-XXXX. I am available from now till 4 and then after 7. Please feel free to give me a call."
