School Board Disease is spreading rapidly

President Josephine Posti would like to continue meeting with the Commission, but you guessed it, the meetings would be closed to the public.  On Tuesday, January 11, the Commission decided to send two Commissioners to meet with two members of the School Board on a quarterly basis, against Dan Miller's and Matt Kluck's votes to hold the Joint Steering Committee meeting openly.
Josephine Posti, do you seriously think this is what the public wants?  Closed meetings?  Lack of transparency is the first symptom of School Board Disease.

Josephine Posti, President of the school board has insisted that these meetings be held behind closed doors. No members of the public are allowed to attend. And 3commissioners have agreed to this stipulation. One commissioner says "Though I strongly support transparent government I do not believe that the meetings would be productive" if there are residens in attendence. What will they be discussing that they don't want us to hear? Why has Ms. Posti made this demand, and why did the commissioner agreed to it? Business as usual in Mt. Labanon? Transparency be damned.

Symptoms of School Board Disease:
• Disrespect of public thought
• Listening only to those who agree with you
• Illegal executive sessions protected by lawsuits against moms
• Rejection of other board members’ viewpoints
• Groupthink
• Unity Voting – the most deadly symptom

I am still trying to figure out how 2 votes for public sessions and 3 votes for "I don't care either way" add up to continuing private meetings with members of the School Board. I am extremely disappointed with the Commission. I was hoping they would have taken a stand for transparency, but it seems to me, they have caved in to President Posti's ways.
We have worked very hard to force the issue of transparency on to the School Board. What difference does it make that the President doesn't support it if there are still two members from the Commission attending?

Elaine,

It's the "new math"...!

JK, Please don't start a discussion on the new Math program. A math facilitator was needed to explain the new math to the elementary school teachers.

If the teachers need a math facilitator, will the Board ever understand the Math well enough to reconcile shrinking Earned Income Revenues and rising Debt Service Expense?
