Oh dear. No mention of any of the beam and bay asbestos fireproofing that plagues its twins (Buildings C and F). The "little tip of the D Building where the Gold Gym sticks out past the face of the swimming pool" mentioned by the construction manager turns out to be a pretty massive imminent demolition project of the end of the Gold Gym/Wrestling room stack that was built with Buildings C and F in the early '70s. Is the Administration deliberately ignoring suspected asbestos-containing materials in the high school project? It happened during the elementary projects....
MTLSD didn't "consider" material above a false ceiling? Why not?
Are we repeating history here, and having the District not considering material, for example, concealed by a false ceiling in a building addition that was part of a lawsuit against W.R. Grace over fifteen years ago in which the District said it needed $21.4 million to abate the asbestos in its 1970s additions?
Has MTLSD "considered", for example, what material is above the Wrestling Room and under the Gold Gym floor in the 1970s Monokote-vintage addition that the District is prepping for 1/4 demolition of? And, unlike the Summer 2008 $32,000 change order on a $43,000 project, this is demolition in the middle of our campus while school is in session. The District claims that the part of Building D that they are imminently demolishing is asbestos-free. I've asked the District for inspection-report evidence that there is no asbestos in this zone, but they have only offered platitudes and no inspection reports or results. In 2010, the District was telling me that the asbestos fireproofing in Building F was not hazardous, despite 2009 and 1988 reports saying it was homogenous with the asbestos fireproofing that is in the much-demonized Building C. They seem to be either inept or dishonest, as I posted on BlogLebo back in November 2010. http://bloglebo.blogspot.com/2010/11/letter-school-district-lax-on-safety.html#comments The elementary renovations had our children wallowing in demolition dusts, including but not limited to asbestos, silica, and lead paint. Concerned citizens do not want to experience a repeat performance.

"(19) Change Order-Stadium Maintenance Facility Asbestos Abatement Project: RESOLVED, That the Board approves Change Order No.1 to Bristol Environmental Inc. in the amount of $32,000 for additional asbestos abatement and installation of additional insulation as required and necessary to meet the regulations of the Allegheny County Health Department."
From School Board Discussion Meeting Agenda for Monday, July 14, 2008:
"14. Stadium Maintenance Facility Asbestos Abatement- The contractor has requested a change order in the amount of $32,000 for additional asbestos abatement and installation of additional insulation. This material was previously concealed by a false ceiling and was not considered at the time of the original bid."
From School Board Regular Meeting, Monday, April 14, 2008:
"(7) Asbestos Abatement at District Maintenance Shops: RESOLVED, That the Board awards the bid for Asbestos Abatement at District Maintenance Shops to Bristol Environmental at the amount of $43,000 as the lowest responsible bidder meeting specifications."
From School Board Discussion Meeting Agenda for Monday, April 7, 2008:
"7. Asbestos Abatement at the Stadium Maintenance Garage Bid - The District received three bids for asbestos abatement in the stadium maintenance garage. The lowest responsible bid was from Bristol Environmental Inc. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the amount of $43,000.00. Eighty thousand dollars ($80,000) was budgeted for this project. The facilities department recommends award of this project."
Keep in mind that it seems that we regular civilian stakeholders only learned about the above $32,000 change order (on a $43,000 project), presumably, because the change order was over $30,000.
