Looking for fun this afternoon?
The Commission has scheduled a goal setting retreat this afternoon, which is open to the public. It is from 1:00 to 5:00 PM and will be held on the second floor of the Public Safety Building. From what I understand, it will be facilitated by an outside firm. Last year, the commissioners listed revenue generation as their number one goal. Stay tuned for this year's goals.

Wouldn't revenue generation for both the municipality and the school district be easily solved by going after the grossly underassessed properties?
Yes, but Oshry's outfit makes us all "feel good" about it.
Speaking of Oshry...
Here's an example of the easy money.
Nine years ago a specific property sold for just over $300,000.
At the proposed 23.14 2012-14 millage rate taxes if the property were assessed at it's 2004 fair market price the school would receive $7,239 ANNUALLY.
But the county in the new assessment has placed a value on this property today - not 2004 - of only $160,000. Nine years later this property lost over $140,000 in value. How is that? I thought Mt. Lebanon was a vibrant, prosperous community where excellent schools keep our property values high!
So with the 2013 reassessment on this one property, and their are hundreds in similar situations, the school district only collects $3,702.40 annually.
If 200 MTL homes are under assessed by similar numbers that is approximately $700,000 annually in lost revenue.
The board has hired Pursuant Ketchum for that amount to try and generate $6,000,000 in donations over 5 to 6 years.
Does this make any sense?
