The results available today show that Mt. Lebanon High School is the top performing school in Allegheny County with an academic score of 99.5. Six other schools, including elementary schools, in the state performed higher, with the Downingtown STEM Academy in Chester County at the top with 101.4.See Mr. Ewing? I can give credit where it is due. I guess this is when you make your pitch for PK. Good luck with that. Now if we could just hang on to our principals or is it principles?
Looks like high school students are off tomorrow due to a water main break.

That looks suspiciously like the Post-Gazette article and it's not credited. If I recall correctly, that's plagiarism. Knowing how you feel about this subject, I was a bit surprised.
Things that make you go hmm....
I compared the results of MTLHS and USCHS on the website du jour.
MTL had better scores are every test administered by the district/state. But USC had better scores on every test administered by the college boards, which includes the SAT and ACT.
Colleges look at the SAT and ACT.
It would be nice to know how many students from the entire student body took each test.
5:47 PM, I guess you don't understand hyperlinks. If you click on the text that is in blue, you will find that it is linked to the Post-Gazette. It is also indented because it is a quote from that link. Isn't it interesting how I am criticized even when I am saying something positive about Timmy?
Elaine
Elaine - you scooped the District - no word about the news ! You beat Tim - who only Tweets about sports and construction updates !
That is good news.
On the other hand the condition of the high school facilites appears to confirm that buildings don't influence student achieve much.
At any rate congrats students, teachers and administrators for moving up to first in Allegheny County.
Correction:
...buildings don't influence student achievement much.
Wait...
The high school is in the middle of a construction project. It's not fully functioning.
And
They were able to study for that test and get high scores.
Maybe we need to stop the construction project now and cut our losses so we don't have any bad impact on these scores!
8:11, whether the project proceeds or not I think we have pretty good evidence that teachers make the difference, not 70s-era or "21st century classrooms".
What will be the shame of the high school renovation is that extravagant building projects will cut into teachers, materials and contemporary curriculum.
Given the educational level of parents in Mt. Lebanon, and USC for that matter, is it any real surprise that the students would excel? If the Mt. Lebanon teachers, and Superintendent, were exchanged with another district with less significantly stellar results, would the outcome be different? If not, the extraordinary compensation package of the Superintendent might not be required.
Yes sir, the finest test-prep money can buy!
