A reader asks...

I received this through the Blogger Contact form.

Does anybody know about the new pet policy at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery? I've never seen any problems, but something must have happened.

i heard that a dog was running "at large" and someone called 911 friday night but that's all i know and i am not sure if it is related to the new policy.

We've walked our dog since last fall and have seen many other dogs, all on leash. I've never seen evidence of folks not cleaning up after their dog had done his business. All of a sudden, about a week ago, about 20 signs appear throughout the cemetery prohibiting pets subject to prosecution to the maximum extent.

A few days later, about 6 stickers are pasted on signs saying the policy had been rethought and pets could be allowed as long as they were cleaned up after. We walked a couple of times after hoping (but not really expecting) that the new policy had indeed been changed. As of today, the signs have been cleaned up and there's no doubt as to what the policy is.

My feelings is that this a lot of overkill for a problem that is not readily visible. I think the operator of the cemetery at least should post a statement explaining why this policy exists. At least then, if there is good reason, we can begrudgingly comply. If they give us no good reason, then I think someone is pretty mean spirited.
