MTLSD appeals PA Office of Open Records' Final Determination

On April 17, 2018, Josephine Posti submitted a Right To Know to the school district, asking for "all electronic communications, including text messages, between and among school directors between December 2017 and March 2018 regarding support for or against the District's capital campaign or its rebranded effort titled "Lebo Gives."

The District partially denied Josephine Posti's request, so Josephine appealed to the PA Office of Open Records.

On August 24, 2018, the OOR issued a Final Determination. Posti's appeal was denied in part and granted in part.

MTLSD wants the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas to reverse the OOR Final Determination for the following reason:
Electronic communications sent among less than a quorum of the District's school board members on their personal devices and accounts are not records of the District.

I wish I could download the document. Here is the link to the petition.

Good for her. Nearly a million dollars in Mt. Lebanon taxpayer money is gone. I think everyone involved should come completely clean. This seems like a good start. Keep digging.

Gotta love that Pennsylvania transparency.

Here’s a perfect opportunity for the Mt. Lebanon Republican Party to ‘get in the game.’ Doesn’t take a big Committee $$$ War Chest, just a will to stand up for their Republican Principles.

I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.
I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
I BELIEVE the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

See that sixth belief: “I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.” The school district and apparently the PA Office of Open Records certainly aren’t being responsive to the taxpayers.

$700,000 of taxpayer money went up in smoke for 6 years and now the district is going to hide how it happened.

Republicans, join with Posti, demand sunshine! You can do it for free, just submit an opinion to the Mt. Lebanon Magazine/Lebomag.com.

The magazine declares: “mtl-Mt. Lebanon Magazine is published by the Mt. Lebanon Public Information Office as a non-profit source of information. Our goal is to increase the transparency of municipal government, to give you the information you need to have input into the decision-making process and to promote pride in our community, including our schools, neighborhoods, housing stock, municipal services, recreation programs and unique professional services and businesses. Because regional coverage of suburban municipalities is dwindling, a trusted source of local information such as mtl-Mt. Lebanon Magazine is becoming ever more important. Our community partners know that when they request coverage or submit story ideas, we do our best to comply.”

Ms. Posti is right in looking for sunshine, join in her quest LeboGOP.

9:23 PM, Josephine was only looking to see which board members supported and who was against the effort. We all know now since the campaign was shut down. Nothing else will be uncovered. Sorry.

Posti’s right, we should know who was for and against continuing the money-losing campaign.
Learning that the next question would be why they took the position they did.
As in why would somebody want to continue a money losing venture. Steinhauer admitted that the district can still accept donations to the district. There’s no need for a campaign.

It is no secret, 10:53 AM. Birks, Cooper, Lebowitz, Remely, and Cappucci were for it. Riemer, Strotmeyer, Diamond, Beal, and Frioni were against it. That is why it was so important for Riemer (twice), Strotmeyer, and Diamond to win the election. That big win is what shut down the capital campaign.

Agreed Elaine, but if it’s no secret then the question becomes what is Posti’s game?

11:58, Posti's end game was throwing a fit because her campaign was shut down. It's the grown up equivalent to taking your ball and going home.

I wonder when the school district publishes its Delinquent School Tax List for 2018 if they’ll include the Century of Excellence fundraiser’s delinquent repayment of the $700,000 “loan” given by taxpayers?
