Architect's Update

Just a quick post to say that last night's Architect Update was 2.5 hours long.  The podcast is on Lebo Citizens and the first run is airing on TV as I type.

Six items were presented by Tom Celli where he is asking for direction so that they can proceed and have construction documents for September 2.  Board members are asked to decide by June 17.  A few SB members felt as though they are being rushed to make major decisions.

Briefly, the six points presented by Tom Celli include:
1. Approval of new layouts of G Building and the lower level of the Athletic Building
2. Agree to final list of alternates
3. Size and weight of elevator and loading dock
4. Multiple vs. Single Prime Contractors
5. Major mechanical systems used
6. Security system (number of cameras - yet, they don't know how many floors will be in the final plan. )

One board member feels that to reduce costs, items are being categorized as soft costs.  This does not reduce the cost of the project.  They are just being shifted from one column to the other.  She wants to know what the REAL costs will be.

Changes include removing 33,000 square feet from the project.  Also 197 options were presented to remove from the project and could reduce the project by $14 million.

Could someone please explain how the deleted spaces and alternate materials being discussed create a high school that is more functional, more attractive or more useful than the building we now have???
Also how does this resemble the project presented in Act 34 that the board voted to proceed with?

I have a few of questions about the Master Design Team. Who are they and are they still involved? Did the MDT come up with this plan and now the SB is charged with chopping it up? Shouldn't the MDT be at these updates?

After watching the update this morning, I have to commend Dan Remely for sorting through and exposing the BS. Elaine Cappucci is comfortable with everything, as usual. The co-chairs are at opposite ends of the spectrum. I may regret saying this, but I think most of the Board now understands what we have been saying all along. We AREN'T fear mongering, kid hating, anti education, anti sports, and the litany of other things we were accused of being.

Silly question-- will taxpayers get a refund for all the money wasted on legal costs fighting the municipality for the school district's right to proceed with the Celli plan, that absolutely, positively couldn't be modified or reduced in scope to meet code?

Ms. Posti also made a reference about how expensive those color exterior/interior renderings were in Monday's update. Were they too wasted dollars that could have been applied to teaching materials or supplies that would have actually benefitted recent graduates?

Seems very little about this project thus far has been for the kids!
Wonder who's will benefit from the project or if any ever will.

How much did these renderings and such cost?? I imagine there have been several versions going all the way back. Anybody know what our cost has been for these renderings for "the Celli plan, that absolutely, positively couldn't be modified or reduced in scope to meet code?"

I'm betting the anonymous blogger was looking for the actual bill for the renderings provided on the HS project.
I don't have a clue, but i'd be willing to bet they're on the high side of the examples presented from this company. Perhaps the board will let us know what the charges were.
