School Board Moves Forward with Capital Campaign [UPDATED]

School Board Moves Forward with Capital Campaign
March 19, 2013

At the March 18 School Board meeting the Board approved the firm of Pursuant Ketchum to serve as fundraising counsel to the Mt. Lebanon School District to implement the $6 million capital and endowment campaign. Representatives for the firm will begin to draft the campaign plan, calendar, case for support, develop and analyze the campaign prospect database. They will begin the search for an in-house campaign manager who will also be part of the MLFE, and start to recruit the leadership and volunteers for the campaign.

The goal of the campaign is to position the District for the future with an endowment to help sustain the educational, fine arts and athletic programs Mt. Lebanon School District is known for and to provide an opportunity to fund raise for the capital needs of the District.

What happened to the $3,000,000 for facilities?

Did the $6,000,000 all turn into endowment

I understand that Ed Kubit voted against this.

Larry already had dealings with Elliot Oshry:

Its chronic stupidity on the school board that ensures nobody with a brain or moral code will ever run for those seats. We need to change things in Harrisburg when it comes to school matters. Reform will never happen here in the bubble.

Thank you anon. 5:59 for providing the link to a fund raising discussion with Elliott Oshry. Congratulations to Larry for knowing Elliott and bringing him to the Mount Lebanon School District.

Yes, Larry would also like to double the student parking fee for next year to $100.
I can't believe that I am actually agreeing with Ed Kubit on something.
MLFE board is http://www.mtlsd.org/mlfe/mlfeboard.asp Lots of connnections to people in the district. The campaign manager will be part of MLFE. We'll see whose relative gets that position.

"..search for an in-house campaign manager who will also be a part of the MLFE.." meaning perhaps one of a very large number of MLFE board members, mostly ceremonial ?

MLFE revenues were all of $57,000 and a cash balance of just $38,000 at year-end for fiscal 2012. Think this is the right entity for a $6 million fundraising campaign ?

I'll bet Larry is excited.

Oh yeah, the timing is just right ! Launch a major fundraising campaign by a government agency building a Taj Mahal, about to raise real estate taxes again on already highly taxed property, and large underassessed homes of likely target donors about to be appealed by another government body. Right on !

This entire District farce would make for a great non-fiction novel, maybe even a movie. A possible title could be " How to do all the wrong things precisely right in the bubble".
