Students Contribute to Public Art

From the District website:

Students Contribute to Public Art
December 14, 2011
Jefferson Middle School student, Jakob Posti, is pictured with his artwork on display at Pamela's.

If you happen to stop by Pamela's P & G Diner in Mt. Lebanon, take special notice of the artwork. A community outreach exhibit is taking place at the restaurant and Mt. Lebanon School District is well represented by 12 talented and creative students. Each secondary Visual Arts teacher submitted two outstanding student works of art to represent our District. Special thanks to Mellon art teacher, Garrett Hain, who spearheaded the effort.
Congratulations to the following students:

High School
Natalie Isenberg
Kaelin Kost
Mellon Middle School
Sarah Rolfson
Maddy Rice
Max Davidson
Alexandra McDonough
Abigail Eckhardt
Phoebe Vipperman
Jefferson Middle School
Ava Santoro
Casey Lynch
Jakob Posti
Autumn Graham

Congratulations goes to Josephine Posti's son, Jakob, and eleven others for their achievement.  Love the skateboarding artwork, Jakob.  But I would also like to recognize the eleven others who did not get their photos on the District website. I would be willing to meet you all at Pamela's for a group photo.  You should be recognized for your talents, as well.  Email me at EGillen476@aol.com to make arrangements.

Also, congratulations to Luke Steinhauer, Dr. Steinhauer's son, for his achievement of being named YoungArts Finalist.  His photo is above Jakob Posti's on the District website.

Maybe Ms. Posti can legalize skate boarding on school grounds, Elaine.

Mr. Hain also teaches art at Howe Elementary School. The kids love him, and he makes learning about art fun for them. Thanks Mr. Hain!

Who in heavens name is handling the school district PR?
First you have the board's holiday greeting, then this on the Posti (and by the way 10 other students artwork) and then school district geeting available over at FakeLebo.

I'm pretty sure come January they'll start running "Save the Poor Mt. Lebanon Childrens Relief Fund" commercials on Channel 19. Just $1 a day will keep Lil' Dick and Jane in athletic wear for a month. Imagine the joy when they cross the bridge to a new 8 lane poor and gymnasium.

Actually, it is: (and by the way 11 other students' artwork.)

The greeting on Fake Lebo was sent by Dr. Tim in an email sent to parents. That is pretty funny how Fake Lebo wrote:

The Mt. Lebanon School District's video greeting card!! Note that at the 0:48 mark, by "sing your own song" they mean to sing the same song while dressed identically.

Doesn't Cissy Bowman handle the PR? Of course she is going to have pictures of Dr. Tim's son and the president's son.

And of course, there is a spelling error. In the December 14 post, Greg Frommeyer's name is spelled, "Froymeyer." Mr. Frommeyer is the art teacher at Jefferson Middle School. I have known Greg since he was born. He is a MTL graduate, and second generation teacher in the MTL School District. You'd think they would know how to spell his last name by now.

Elaine's offer to include a photo of all the art winners is to be commended. I'd say she's definitely improved the life of a child---no, make that 10 children---today.

Just for the record...
still no word from the board or administration on whether the Horsman Drive Bridge is a glass-enclosed bridge or not!

That's a tough one for them. Hey, its only our money.

Only royalty get their pictures taken.

Giffen, the Wall Street Journal reported that the steel industry is having a good year, thanks to those glass-enclosed bridges.

This place is unbelievable.

nepotism (ˈnɛpəˌtɪzəm)

— n
favouritism shown to relatives or close friends by those with power or influence

[C17: from Italian nepotismo, from nepote nephew , from the former papal practice of granting special favours to nephews or other relatives]

From what previous administrators have said if you are on the school board your kids get many perks (that is if your votes on agenda items lines up with what district staff want) including better grades and admission to better colleges. Oh and your mistakes are sweep away.

Anon 12:41, any recent examples that you care to share? I'm skeptical.

Anon 12:41 according to many parents too!

But I suppose that is the way of the world in general.

Anon 3:34 you're skeptical and want an example!
Are you blind or just an idiot? Twelve kids have artwork on display at a local eatery and of those twelve who's picture and art does the district select to publicize. Why not shot of the teacher and several of the works behind them. No, we get to see the board president's kid and his art. Are you honestly suggesting this is the only shot they could have possibly taken?

Relax 6:33. I'm not willing to make the leap from the unfortunate art display announcement to the assertion that school board member's kids are awarded better grades and college admissions. Frankly, I'm not sure how they can even have a role in the latter, but I'm willing to listen to the conspiracy theories. Who has examples?

Methinks it was just a conspiracy to DRIVE you all CRAZY! It wasn't that the other kids didn't want their picture in the paper, or that they were not all available at the same time, it was a plot to make you all crazy! How many of the ten other kids emailed Elaine so that she could take their picture?? Oh how their lives were improved by her offer, it is just tearjerking!

Why not a shot of the business owner that offered the space or maybe a photo of someone being served the signature Pamela pancakes with some of the artwork in the background!
Too much to ask? No we get a big picture of Jakob!

Earth-shattering indictment perhaps not, but it is indicative of how egocentric these people are.

A PR professional such as Ms. Posti would have to comprehend how promoting Pamela's neighborly generosity as well as their food could lead to other outside-the-box ideas from local businesses so that district/students might get other offers.
