If Mellon had lights and turf...

Kids wouldn't know that even the Pirates' night games get rained out.

http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/sports/pirates/pirates-rained-out-tonight-at-pnc-park-632752/

It would benefit businesses along Washington Road. The coaches can take the kids for a beer at The Saloon. How about a little sushi at Little Tokyo? Pizza at Il Pizzaiolo? Sure, kids would be willing to wait for pizza. Mineo's? Would Dinardo's Candy still be open? Maybe the new ice cream shop. Or would they walk down to Rollier's for a Gatorade? They could pick up that bird bath they needed while they were there.

The homes and condos would have something to complain about with the lights shining in their windows.

Mellon would be a showcase field. The apartments behind it would be the only ones to have a great view, however.

The same people who cost us that huge athletic wing at the high school and got the turf at Mellon would be able to start asking for Jefferson to be turfed. Then all the elementary schools. Think how much use they could get out of those "Save Our School" signs.

We could build on the rock pile for that indoor practice facility at the tune of what $20 million?

Imagine how blogs would have nothing to talk about except maybe helping to find missing persons or some other way for the community to work together.

Hey 'kids' (nod, nod, wink, wink Dave) just like playing in the big leagues.
Somewhere along life's journey you'te going to get rained on occasionally.

Why not a dome for the entire township! That way, even the pick up games on the streets will never be rained out!

Jack,
Are you suggesting a bubble for Mt. Lebanon? We already have that, don't we?

At tonight's commission meeting, I spoke during citizens' comments. My husband and I adopted Rockwood Park. We have taken that responsibility very seriously. Likewise, the residents surrounding Highland Terrace Park have collected more than $4000 in donations to update that park and they haven't even started their fundraising efforts! They should be commended. My suggestion was for the various sports groups to adopt a field.

There was a public meeting for amending Chapter XX (Zoning) of the Mt. Lebanon Code, Part 8, Section 823.5 (Authorized Signs). the Planning Board voted against recommending adoption of the proposed ordinance, but with some tweaking of the ordinance, perhaps that could change. Two residents spoke in favor of the amended ordinance which would provide additional revenue for fields, etc.

I will not be taking any comments with the words "Deadbeat Athletic Supporters." You're welcome, Dave. And Dave.

Elaine, the Highland Terrace group that already raised $4,000. You wouldn't happen to know how much they spent on their fund raising feasibility study?

Just curious.

I am not sure, Godfrey. They haven't begun their fundraising campaign yet. I think that will be discussed over cappuccino on Wednesday morning. I think PK will be making the presentation to the Highland Terrace residents at that time.

Elaine,

Thank you for curtailing the "DAS" slur. I appreciate the effort.
