Unbelievable

Tonight the board will discuss books for classes. One for an AP course is The Shame of the Nation: The Restoration of Apartheid Schooling in America. New York: Crown Publishers.

Here's a brief review:
"In the book, Kozol attacks the disparity in expenditures on education between central cities and well-to-do suburbs, and the system of property taxes which most school systems and states rely on for funding.[3] He expresses outrage at inequities in expenditure, pointing out that New York City in 2002-3 spent $11,627 on the education of each child, while in Nassau County, the town of Manhasset spent $22,311, and Great Neck $19,705. He found that there are comparable disparities in other metropolitan areas, since most funding is locally based.[1] Kozol describes schools that are separated by a 15-minute drive but that offer vastly different educational opportunities. In one example, a primarily white school offers drama club and AP classes, and the nearby primarily black school requires classes like hairdressing.[4]"

MTL students, whose parents are hiring an expensive national PR firm to raise $30 million in donations, are going to get an unbiased education in the disparities in affluent and poor districts.

Unbelievable.

Amazing, the administration and board - from one of Pennsylvania's more affluent school districts - is employing a high profile PR firm for $41,000 to conduct a feasibility study to see how they can collar individuals and corporations to give 'them' more money.

While at the same time indoctrinating honor students with guilt and instilling in them shame for living in an affluent community.

Next they'll be demonizing us parents for working for better lives for our families.

I can see the next title up for discussion as soon as the liberal board members get it published in MTL magazine... "Blue DEVIL Parents - and why every child doesn't have their own ball field"

Remember folks, you're getting all this and more for "only $18 a month!"

Progressivsm at its finest. This community is a perfect microcosm of what goes on at the federal level, albeit a few years behind. Next thing we'll have is a transgender curriculum and unisex bathrooms. Too bad none of the hard-working, tax-paying residents are paying attention.

Wow, getting that class warfare in early. Nice when you have to de-program your child when they get home and explain to them "even though they're the teacher, they're not always correct and they're trying to brainwash you" each day.

They'll be sure to have time for this - even if they have to cut something like math or science or history. A quick look at the Amazon reviews of the book and you see that it's definitely "Progressive" talking-point filled book.

And Godfrey, it's "only $18/month (or less)" - don't forget the "or less." One thing those signs taught me was that if you're going to lie, lie big!

Elaine, thank you for posting this. Is there a list of the books for classes online that we could view?

Hi Jack, the list of books are listed on the agenda.

They will be approved at the next meeting, April 16 in the Jefferson Middle School Library. Listen or watch the last meeting, Jack. They don't read 'em, just approve 'em.
