7. Change Orders for High School Renovation Project – The following change orders are presented for Board consideration. All the change orders listed below have been reviewed by the architect, PJ Dick and the District administration.
a. IN-01-03 for (-$278,363) credit to Farfield – Reversal of insurance claim for the 5KV line break,
b. GC-33-71 for (-$47,231) credit to Nello – Reconciliation of GC-001 for earth materials,
c. EL-15-72 for $19,851 to Farfield – Fire alarm modifications based on Municipal review,
d. EL-16-73 for $2,336 to Farfield – Vanity lights which were not originally intended to be replaced,
e. EL-17-74 for $2,037 to Farfield – Added light fixtures F Bldg 4th floor,
f. EL-18-75 for $18,484 to Farfield – Lighting changes due to ceiling modifications in B and D Buildings,
g. EL-19-76 for $32,269 to Farfield – Fire Alarm changes required by Municipal Fire Department,
h. EL-20-77 for $9,467 to Farfield – Crosswalk changes due to change in loading dock for pushbutton lights,
i. EL-21-78 for $6,133 to Farfield – Added card readers to elevator in H Building,
j. EL-22-79 for $9,797 to Farfield – Added zone box for data circuits in F Building to be within length limits,
k. EL-23-80 for $3,930 to Farfield – Power to Swimming Pool Heat Exchanger

$2,336 for Vanity lights does seem appropriate for a municipality as vain as Mt. Lebanon, but seriously was this building designed by the 3 Stooges?
$4,000 too get power to the pool heat exchanger pump? Really?! All these experienced contruction firms and no one at the design and bid stage noticed there was a pump with no power?
Just like elevator shafts with no drain or pump and no security card readers!
But what is even more hilarious, the G wing they just built has an elevation discrepancy. Oooops, sorry we missed by just a little bit, you won't mind forking over $23,000 to fix our error will you.
Wonder if this has anything to do with the sinking gymnasium?

I think it is slap in the face to the fire department when they say a change order is due to "Municipal Fire Department".
In fact, the change order should read, "Due to original specifications not being up to current code".
That way you keep the fire department out of it and put the blame squarely where it belongs.
But, as usual, the board and administration likes blaming everyone but themselves for things like this.

They also blamed the zonino board for holding up their plans because they couldn't plan the required number of parking spaces.
Now they're blaming Harrisburg for their budget problems, teaching to the PSSA tests and who knows what else.
They probably blame Mother Nature or God for the misalignment in building G.
Hey 11:41 PM, you forgot to include the main gym concrete floor in the athletic Taj Mahal they discovered wasn't truly level or horizontal - must have been result of that asteroid passing only 17,000 miles from earth recently.
Do they plan to sue the wood flooring manufacturer and contractor if they can't make it all perfectly level after installation of the finished flooring system ? They wouldn't dream of going after their main buds Celli or Nello for settlement
8:37 didn't forget though a huge segment of the community did or doesn't care how their tax dollars for education get spent.
If that gym isn't level a change order will be issued or in a year or two a capital improvement will be issued. You see money is no object. Remember we replaced the artificial stadium turf short of it's expected life.
Which I hope some one pays attention too whn the SAB wins there effort to turf 3 fields. Those 3 will need to be replaced in 7 to 15 years and that will probably cost as much or more than the initial installation. And who does the SAB plan on sticking with that responsibility - the school district for one, those people that find it necessary to panhandle for money to keep their system afloat.

You said it, 10:08. The architects, engineers and contractors should be responsible for these projects.
If they can't design and build them right, they're in the wrong business.
The taxpayers are sick of being held hostage, too.
The District saved $35,000 by reducing quantities of unnecessary fire rated glass in doors and sidelites. (#67)
The District saved $100,000 by modifying the requirement for floor laser leveling. Specifications call for laser level of all floors. (#75)

Something I don't understand. In last night's presentation
There were a couple of out and out admissions by the woman and man presenting that Gc-34-83 for $23,000 and EL-23-80 for 4,000 in wiring for pool pumps were omissions or errors in the drawings. Celli admitted that missing water feeds to the boilers and chillers Was an oversight in the bid drawings.
Is this standard operating procedure? Is there no penalty for screw ups?
Line the elevation fix. Why is the district out for the flooring not aligning properly? We didn't design building G, we didn't erect building G.
But I'm pretty sure when the board approved the building design, they expected the floors to line up for the cost quoted.
Same with I'll bet they expected elevators to run up and down elevator shafts without crashing into ductwork!

What would happen if the board said: "we're not paying $23,000 for a floor to align." would it stay out of alignment." if they denied the boiler/chiller water feed change order, would there be no heat in the building?
Would anyone buy a building with beautiful tubs and bathrooms and as it's being built the contractor came back and asked for $10,000 because they forgot to add water pipes in the design?

6:00 PM, when I heard her admit to that, I thought for sure that would be their responsibility, but nooooooo. I met an Upper St. Clair couple tonight for the first time. They had heard and remarked about Timmy's private bathroom in the renovation. Imagine that! USC is laughing at us.
6:00 PM, what do you think about the floor being "depressed?" It was only off by THIRTY inches when they changed the configuration.
What's the use of complaining? Contractors are happy. Timmy is happy. Twenty administrators are happy. The board is happy. The sports cabal is happy. It is a beautiful day in Mt. Lebanon.
