Attend Mt. Lebanon Commissioner Meeting
Date: Tuesday, July 14, 2015
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: High School Fine Arts Theater

Notice:
Although the Mt. Lebanon Commissioners received educated quality advice about nonlethal deer management for Mt. Lebo earlier this year, at their June meeting, they chose to dismiss all of the nonlethal advice and only look at lethal ways they can kill deer and endanger our safety in the process. They will vote on the 2015/2016 deer kill plan on Tuesday night. Please plan to attend to give public comment. It's our lives and our town too, so please speak up and let them know it's not OK to endanger our community to protect their landscaping.

Remember Mt. Lebanon does not have a "deer problem" we only have people complaining that they do not want to see deer and that their plants are being eaten ... but their voices get heard because they make them heard and they do not care how it affects other people in the community. We do not have anymore deer in Mt. Lebanon than any other community in Western PA, nor do we have more deer impact issues, nor more vehicle accidents, we simply have more people who complain about seeing deer than in any other community and thus the Commission says we need to kill some.

It's our town, our lives and our neighborhoods too, so please speak up and let the Commission know it's not OK to endanger our community to protect landscaping.

Along with there being no safe place in our community to shoot deer with high powered rifles there's also no safe place within our community to shoot deer with a a cross bow and then to track their wounded bodies through our neighborhoods.

For all the deer killed, others from neighboring towns will filter in and thus we ultimately never reduce the number of deer and the people who complain now will continue to complain but the Commissioners can say they killed some deer ....

Thank you again for your attention to this grave matter.

Public Hearing for Sports Advisory Board

The agenda for Monday's Commission meeting has been posted.  We finally get to see the ordinance written for Bill No. 20-12,  The Ordinance Amending the Code of Ordinances to Establish a Sports Advisory Board. This bill was introduced on November 13, 2012 by Kristen Linfante, but was never posted since the link was incorrect. The public hearing for this new Sports Advisory Board, or as Josephine Posti likes to call it an ad-hoc committee, will be held on Monday evening.  It is number five on the agenda. Kristen will be moving to enact the ordinance after the meeting. Perhaps, this is how Dave suddenly changed his mind on shooting deer. The commission meeting starts at 8:00 PM.

In case you were wondering, the Joint Maintenance Agreement will be item number five on the Commission Discussion Session agenda.  That meeting starts at 6:40 PM.

I uploaded the podcast to the November Parks Advisory Board meeting.  I apologize for the quality of the recording.  The Director of Recreation recorded it for the purpose of writing the minutes of the meeting. Around the eighteen minute mark is when the voices start to get a little louder.  Dave Franklin is pretty easy to understand. I am reasonably sure he will be appointed as the Parks Advisory Board representative, don't you?

Just what the Commission needs

The agendas for Tuesday's Commission meetings have been published.
Besides public hearings for:
  • 2013 Manager's Recommended Budget
  • Recreation bond
Bill No. 20-12 will be introduced. Bill No. 20-12 is Brumfield's idea according to his website article, "Field Failure." http://www.davebrumfield.com./

Introduction of Ordinance (Bill No. 20-12) establishing a Youth Sports Advisory Board.

The proposed advisory board will:

  • Review and assess all sports-related facilities and services in Mt. Lebanon. Recommend possible changes and improvements to sports-related facilities and services.
  • Assist in the continued safe provision of athletic opportunities to Mt. Lebanon residents.
  • Receive and consider public comment and other public input regarding sports facilities and services.
  • Support, promote and/or provide programs and services to assist athletes and coaches in Mt. Lebanon.
Membership of the board will consist of staff from the municipality and school district, a representative from any sports organization recognized by the municipality, a representative from the parks board and a commission liaison. The School District will also provide a liaison and may request participation by other staff or groups. Recommended Action: Introduce Ordinance (Bill No. 20-12).
The link to Bill No. 20-12 is incorrect. The clickable link is to Bill No. 21-12.

Three meetings...all on the same night

Mt. Lebanon needs to schedule more meetings for Monday evening.

1. In a Lebo Alert:
Free Seminar on the Allegheny Co. property tax assessment appeal process, 7 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Mt Lebanon Public Library.
2. The School Board will be holding a special budget meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the Jefferson Middle School Auditorium. Agenda is here.
Laurels & Lances On the “Watch List”: The Mt. Lebanon School Board. It's going to spend more than $41,000 on a study to predict the success of a prospective $30 million capital fundraising campaign. Good grief. We'll bet most residents of already tax-strapped Mt. Lebanon don't appreciate the implications of picking their pockets one way to see how amenable they might be to having their pockets picked another way. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/opinion/s_787814.html#ixzz1pxyn5gl0

3. And finally, the regularly scheduled Mt. Lebanon Commission Discussion Session, 6:25 p.m., and the Mt. Lebanon Adjourned Commission Meeting, 8 p.m., will be held in the Commission Chambers in the Municipal Building.

Update March 23, 2012 7:00 p.m. From Center Court Blog

Time / Location Changes

There are a few location and time changes to some upcoming events. One is a recent change due to anticipated high attendance, one an error by the Post-Gazette and one an error on this blog.

Monday, March 26, 7PM: Due to anticipated attendance, we've moved Monday night's budget meeting to the Jefferson Middle School Auditorium.

Upcoming Community Coffees: The first one will be Saturday, March 31 from 9-11AM at Uptown Coffee on Washington Road. The second will be Wednesday, April 25 from 7-9AM at Orbis Caffe on Washington Road. [So those who were betting on Coffee Tree on Beverly Road lost. It is on Washington Road after all. Uptown Coffee.]

These are all opportunities to share your thoughts on the budget that we will take action on in May. We hope to see you there.
