No More Secrets

Highlights from last night's School Board meeting:

No more secrets.
Redesign.  No, rebid.  Board is divided.
Revisit Building C.  No, don't revisit Building C.  Board is divided.
Issues identified as to what went wrong.  No details as to what went wrong.  Still don't know.
Nothing decided.  Nothing voted on.
Usual abuse to CAC members.
Public apology from Dan Remely.

Dan Remely in reference to LEED said he wished that someone had told him before hand about the numbers and state reimbursements.
Mark Hart, then SB member warned the board very early on that pursuit of LEED certification and state reimbursement was a zero sum game!
It's not like they weren't told.

Think of this as well....they are proceeding single mindedly with an overdesigned and outrageously high cost HS project with excess space (it was supposed to be 440,000 sf, now it is 485,000 sf) or some 245 sf/student v. a standard of 194 sf/student and therefore excess enrollment capacity (see PlanCon A). Add to this the increasing excess capacity in both the 2 Middle Schools and 7 Elementary schools, and what are we facing ?

Answer :

1) the prospect of forced school district consolidation, and

2) vouchers

Are we setting ourselves up as a potential candidate for a dreaded "build it and they will come" K-12 outcome ?
