Scoop on Sloane

Sloane Astorino, the Director of Advancement for the "Century of Excellence Capital Campaign," is pulling in $85,305 in salary and $51,279.21 in benefits,  according to the Capital Campaign Financial RecordsFear not. Jan Klein, Director of Finance, said those numbers include Sloane's salary for her Executive Director's position with the Mt. Lebanon Foundation for Education.

According to the MLFE website, Mt. Lebanon Foundation for Education is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. It is an "independent, nonprofit organization(s) dedicated to supporting educational opportunities for children in their communities."

On to Guidestar for MLFE's 990s.

2011 990
2012 990
2013 990

That's it. So where are the most current ones? According to the IRS, they haven’t filed the 990-N postcard either.

Also, Jan Klein says that the loan to the Century of Excellence Capital Campaign isn't a "loan," but an "investment." I see it as a scam with the executive director being the sole benefactor.

When I grow up, I want to be Sloane.

I agree with your assessment. You're doing great work here to benefit Mt. Lebo citizens and I think that other people are starting to notice. Keep it up. The only way that our local government will respond to the people is through greater transparency and accountability. It seems that everywhere you turn, our local government tries to limit that process. What are they so afraid of? Sunshine is good for the soul.

Jo Posti wants a Capital Campaign reset.
Are we going to allow her to co-chair the fundraiser considering she only now wants a reset after the cat's out of the bag.
Where has Madame Chair been for the past two years while people have been asking about the campaign finances.

Time to kick Posti to the curb.

I still don't get how all of this is legal. The board handed money to a group so they could...uh, raise money. The same board that claimed it needed this farcical capital campaign because, golly, they just didn't have the money to finish putting the jewels in the crown. The campaign has proven worthless and a fincancial loser.
This is all rotten. These same people lied to the community almost a decade ago so they could build a new school. They lied about costs, they lied about support, they lied about necessity. They did all of that so they could skirt a vote. You know, the same cartel that claimed overwhelming community backing was afraid to put it to a test.
Here we are years later, after the board shifted money to a this BS phantom entity, and now they claim it wasn't a loan. They are saying that because that loan, of PUBLIC MONEY, has to be repaid. That means the capital campaign is wiped out. And that means the fools running it have some explaining to do.
An investment? If that loan is considered an investment, the people who agreed to do it should be run out of town since investments are meant to provide a return.

The queen bees want to repackage their ludicrous error. No, ladies, you don't get to change the conversation You're inept and sleazy. Shut it down.
And Lebo Dems--where is the leadership? Where are those in your party who give a damn? If I were looking for a political future and was either part of this mess or had information, I would throw every one of the board members under the bus. It would appear we have our own swamp to drain. Pop the Bubble!

"Lebo Dems--where is the leadership?" I hope that you're being sarcastic. Probably anyone who has tried to reform the current corrupt/crony system has thrown in the towel. It's hard to fight the 'ol boys & (in this case, girls) network. Just look at who leads our local Democratic Committee. Geesh.

The Lebo Dems who are the true leaders of their party are being bound and gagged and dragged into meat freezers, lest they start preaching any of the real tenets of the Democratic Party. I know. I'm one of them. It's cold in here.

I looked up MLFE, and it looks like all they do is fund grants that teacher apply for, I'm confused as to how the executive director benefits or receives any money?
