Best blogger?

Wouldn't it be fun if I won the "Best Blogger" category? A couple of people who come to mind wouldn't handle that very well.

Saw this on Facebook this morning. No gift subscriptions needed for Lebo Citizens; also available at no cost to taxpayers.

The following news is a little on topic, but not by much IMO because this blog certainly offers the most open exchange of info, opinions and ideas as any in the community.

“Drivers could face fewer red lights in seven area corridors | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette”

http://www.post-gazette.com/news/transportation/2018/01/31/Fewer-red-lights-adaptive-traffic-signals-35-million-in-grants-Southwestern-Pennsylvania-Commission/stories/201801310253

Interesting.
While I hate sitting at red lights as much as anyone, I wonder if this will increase or reduce speeding and aggressive driving in the area on Washington Road between The Galleria and the business district.

Thoughts anyone?

It’s too bad though that some will find a reason to bully, bash or demean anything or anyone they happen to disagree with.

Your ego is truly unmatched.

Adaptive signals work quite well, as long as drivers understand the system and are willing to travel at the "adaptive" speed limit. In Portland, Oregon, it is possible to drive from one end of the city to the other and never hit a red light, assuming one drives at 25mph. The whole adaptive signal system is nothing new, as the article in the P-G points out.

Unfortunately, the adaptive system will have little effect on speeders or aggressive drivers. People who fall into those categories have personality issues, and anyone who tries to use logic to convince these people to drive rationally at the "adaptive speed" will be wasting his time.

While speeders and aggressive drivers constitute a hazard on the public roads, it's the distracted driver that is the bigger threat; IMHO. And it is the cell phone that is the biggest cause of distracted driving. Back in 2016 my oldest daughter was rear-ended by a 16 year old girl who was yacking away on her CP. The kid was driving a brand new car, given to her by her daddy as a birthday present (two weeks before she wrecked it). Although the kid had plenty "sight distance" and time to stop, she didn't even hit the brakes before she plowed into my daughter's car. Just stand along any of the major roads that cut through Mt. Lebanon and count the number of drivers with one hand on the wheel, and the other hand at an ear with a cell phone in it. The irony is that many of these drivers are driving cars that have a "Sync" feature that allows a cell phone to connect through the car's "infotainment" system, thus permitting "hands-free" CP operation. My lowly Ford Focus has it! That system reduces the risk, but I guess it's too much trouble for some people to use it.

Good points, Mr. Gideon.
I believe the traffic lights in Oakland use the system and it works pretty well except for those that think they shouldn’t have to travel behind another vehicle.

Knew 9:38 wouldn’t be able to resist knock someone. Nice contribution to the conversation. Keep up the good work. Talk about egos. LOL

You deserve a local Pulitzer prize for exposing the Century of Excellence/Capital Campaign issues.

Still perplexed as to how a fundraiser only takes in $672,267.20 actual cash and spends $712,870.13 in operating cash and somehow manages to make $384,754.05 in disbursements.

Of course, the donors will get their tax write-offs and direct where their contributions are used, but taxpayers ultimately are paying for this charade.

How it can continue without an uproar in the community is beyond me.

Capital Campaign Flim-Flam

$ 712,870.13 Operating Expenditures
$ 384,754.05 Disbursements
–––––––––––
$1,097,624.18 Total Spending
$ 672,267.20 Income
––––––––––––
($ 425,356.98) Deficit

Shouldn’t every Mt. Lebanon taxpayer be considered a donor to the fundraiser and be able to deduct their share of the donation from their 2017 taxes?

God, I hope this doesn’t go on for 100 years!

Regarding the fundraiser-

If the school district had almost a million dollars just laying around that they used to seed, loan or finance the fundraiser, why didn’t they just use $400,000 of that million and build the stuff (weight room, Hall of Fame mural, library rooms, etc.) rather than chasing donors?

Especially since they spent over $700,000 on salaries, healthcare, employer taxes/SS/pending contributions/Pursuant Ketchum fees/advertising/design/donor tracking software which doesn’t help students in any way!

Can you please elaborate on the "2011 CBS Pittsburgh's Most Valuable Blogger Award"? Your hyperlink routes me to an error page. I tried to google it but there is no such history of the award. Thanks!
