"Some common sense opposition"

At the March 12 school board meeting, Josephine Posti presented the last agenda item, "Field Use," as a proposal from the Commission to turf and light a middle school's field.

That lead to my latest poll, "SHOULD THE COMMISSIONERS SPEND MUNICIPAL DOLLARS ON MTLSD ASSETS?"

It turns out that there is "some common sense opposition" to Dave Brumfield's idea to turf and light a middle school field.

Kelly Fraasch, Ward 5 Commissioner, asked Gateway Engineers' Dan Deiseroth to put together a review of municipal field alternatives. The review has been posted on the municipal website here.
Kelly has put together a breakdown of the presentation with an explanation.

I didn't know how to add a photo in the comments section, so this is in response to Albert Brennaman's comment about freezing out Mrs. Fraasch.  Look at the body language of the woman "without baggage," Albert.

I think the conversation about fields and other rec issues will continue and may uncover new ideas that haven't surfaced. I just put some items down on paper to see what we are looking at and what else might make sense for the community. I encourage anyone that is interested in this issue to contact the Commission and let them know your thoughts. As each of the Commissioners continue this conversation in the weeks/months ahead, it's helpful to hear from all residents. Some of the Commissioners have different ideas, but I don't find us opposing each other.

How much did Gateway charge for this Study?

We could trade Twin Hills park for the Kossman property next to the Shop n Save.
It's close enough to Wendy's for a Frosty after practice.

Kelly Fraasch should be commended for developing a very workable and fiscally responsible plan for parks and recreation over the next several years. Yes, it is more more than just athletic fields (which is certainly refreshing), and yes does not include all facets of rec just yet; however, it recognizes, respects and reflects financial & economic realities in our community.

Agree, Mr. Lewis, at lest Kelly is open to finding a workable solution rather than running willy nilly into another expenditur

Hopefully the commission will not freeze out Mrs. Fraasch like the school board did Mr. Fraasch.

It takes guts to stand up to the leadership and to people that signed onto a document about turfing a field even before they got elected.

Kelly didn't sign the, "if you vote for me I will turf Mellon" document like three of the sitting commissioners did. Someone should ask the new commissioners why they felt the need to turf a field when they had no idea what it would mean to their budget. Oh well, promises, promises.

It will be big of the commissioners if they could take a step back from their implied promise and do what is right for the community- and that would be to NOT spend scarce money on turfing a school district asset when there are completely viable and less expensive plans put forth by a commissioner that didn't sign onto the plan.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. And if the commission changes direction and doesn't spend money on turf, all of the people on this blog ought to send thank yous to each and every one of them.

Albert, I updated the original post with a picture that is worth a thousand words.
I doubt that many of the readers of this blog would send thank yous since quite a few of them are the bullies who are behind this idea.
