Speaking of change orders, $75,000 for winterization costs is getting Dan Remely fired up. The Almanac (Saved in Google Docs) writes:
“I cannot believe the contractor did not include any winterization costs for a four-year project,” said board member Dan Remely. He requested more detailed information about the change order or that it be removed from the agenda for the May 20 school board meeting.Well, Dan Remely, it is still on the agenda for tonight. Update May 20, 2013 12:04 PM Here is a 2009 document that details much of the early direction from the board on the cost of the project. The project is about where the board wanted it all along - at the borrowing limit - no matter what. I don't see where Remely made any difference.

If you go back about the time the joint pool project on the little Horsman Field was cancelled (what was wasted on that little fiasco) didn't Carol Walton set the HS project at $120,000,000 to $130,000,000. That about what it cost in the end, so Danny boy didn't cut anything in half!
Dawn, ought to show us the recording where Dan-o tells the Build Our School Now people (Gardner, Linfante, Brumfield, Papke, Labalme etc) to listen to Taylor and Rothchild.

Remely "cutting the cost of the high school renovations by half" - you have just proven your absolute and total ignorance ! Remely was a key member of the Master Design Team for the high school renovation because of his alleged expertise in construction.
The 6 bids for his design, a design he claimed would have a total project cost of no more than $95 million and could not be changed because to do so would prevent delivery of a 21st. century education, for just construction costs alone came in at a range of $102 million - $123 million. The construction cost budget was $86 million ! He then voted to cheapen the design, selecting from a list of 197 delete alternates rapidly developed by his team. Included was the elimination of 30,000 square feet of new construction in order to avoid the necessity of an electoral referendum. In the cost-cutting process, he also proposed suing Mt. Lebanon for requiring the district to strictly abide by fire safety code regulations.
Yeah, and Remely has also voted "yea" to every salary and benefit increase for teachers, administrators, clerical & Superintendent that have come before him. And all increases have been at rates greater than inflation. After all, as he openly claims, he comes from three generations of teachers.
Here's another baffling change order.
Item d. For $37,404 to finish stairwell and drywall in Bldg. F. Were they planning to leave this unfinished in the original bid?
I know Celli's people "just forgot it" in their original specs. One doesn't need to finish out a stairway anymore than a boiler needs water feeds or pool pumps need electrical power.
What a comedy! Wonder what the one is on the tennis courts? Bet those will be moved to capital improvements down the road.

School district expenditures are rising at an average $2 million per year. If that's holding taxes down, what would they be if Birks, Capucci, Lebowitz, Cooper, Kubit, Posti and Dan had a free rein?
In a salute to the high school musical "Seussical," if I were Gerald McGrew and running the zoo, I'd take a long hard look at people like Dawn Morrison, Cissy Bowman and Sue Morgans.
Cissy is about as far away from the classroom as one can get in the district, certainly further than librarians and counslors, so why not evaluate just what does she contribute. Same with Dawn and Sue.
Plus how do their salaries/benefits compare to the private sector. Elaine is providing district and mimicking communication faster than any of these three and she's doing it for nothing!
It's time to cut the fat and the low hanging fruits.
Hey Dawn here's some Remely FACTS--
Dan's Scott Towne Center tied up traffic on Cochran for commuters for weeks due to a landslide.
Dan thought nothing of erecting an eyesore of an outdoor board, that is usually 30% unused on Mt. 'Lebannon' Blvd.
Dan turned what was probably the nicest driving range/miniature golf course in the area into a muddy quagmire
And last but not least... Dan voted yea to proceed with a $113.4 million HS project. It was never projected to cost $226.8 million. (it may chuckle, chuckle if the change orders keep rolling in).
I don't believe Dawn is employed by the school district. She was on the Mt.Lebanon Parking Authority, you know, the authority that Dan Miller eliminated. Hmmm, maybe that is why Dawn wants to see Miller lose.

Unfortunately, it appears she doesn't think that her constituents should be informed like knowing the results of the grevience ) so they may cast strategic and reasonable choices at the polls!
I uploaded a 2009 document which shows that the renovation is exactly where the board wanted it to be. I don't know where Dawn Morrison gets her facts. Remely was NOT instrumental in cutting the renovation by half. We're not building Heinz Field!

Thanks Elaine for the 2009 document. According to Celli even the DeJong sessions were a waste on money ($100,000+), since they threw out his recommendations on the square footage.

A new high school was going to cost $150 million. Half is 75 million. We are building a school for over $110 million.
Dawn, where did you get that fact?
