Our worst nightmare

Tuesday's Discussion Agenda

Item #5
1. Discuss USDA sharpshooting proposal
2. Discuss sterilization proposal with Dr. DiNicola Keith McGill will introduce Todd Puckett of USDA APHIS Wildlife Services and review issues that have been raised.

These are the bozos who don't count bullets, were chewed out by then president of the commission, Dan Miller for lying to our then police chief Tom Ogden, allowed a deer to bleed out and die in front of someone's home on Lindendale after traveling 100 yards from being shot, didn't have drug tests, couldn't recite answer four questions about gun safety and have been known to shoot themselves in the feet. Here is the safety report that I have had on my website, lebocitizens.com.

I shared this report with our current commission and heard nothing from any of them.

This is getting way out of hand. The Coalition for Coexistence has started a petition, not a pledge this time, that is short and to the point. Please take the time to sign it. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/stop-mt-lebanons-violent-plan-to-kill-deer

The garden biddies hand carried their petition door to door and stood outside of Giant Eagle to collect signatures. It was rather long and residents relied on them to explain what was on the petition. A usual response was that it was to do something about the deer. Some said that they were unaware that deer were going to be killed. Our petition is one sentence long, and easily comprehended. A hard copy of this petition will be distributed tonight at First Friday, as well as downloading a copy here

In addition, I ordered these yard signs today. They should arrive in a week. Email me privately if you would like to order one.

These clown commissioners are out of control.

Elaine--Is it too late to change the sign to "No arrows, no bullets, no hunting, no way." ?? If not, oh well.

For what it is worth - All the double and triple negatives make the sign suggestions unclear. Here were similar comments about the anti-turf signs - those drew parallels with the TV show Modern Family's Slow down...your neighbors" episode (I mean no offense to those who created the signs).
Something like "No Deer Hunting in Mt Lebanon" or "no Stray Bullets in Mt Lebanon".
I like the stark black background.

Thank you for the suggestions. The sign order has been placed. It is going to be produced as shown.
For what it is worth, there WILL be deer killing in Mt. Lebanon starting on September 19. If you don't want it to take place in your yard, then order a sign.

September 19 is six weeks from today. Yahoos will be coming from all over, thanks to the fine job by our PIO, spreading the word that there will be hunting within our borders. There will be no way to distinguish the "approved" archers from yahoos. Welcome to Mt. Lebanon.

There are no fluorescent orange requirements during deer archery season.

No tree stands are required during deer archery season.

I am learning more about hunting deer, than I want to know. PA Game Commission Hunting Tips

"I Think I Got 'Em!

Shooting a deer is only a part of a hunter's path to success. Often, a hunter must also find the deer before he or she can claim the prize. Deer rarely drop when you shoot them, which means after you make the shot there's still work to do. A hunter must make mental note of two locations after shooting a deer. The place where the deer was when you shot, and the last place you saw it after the shot. In rifle season, unless you see the deer drop after the shot, sit tight for 5 to 10 minutes and listen. In archery season, wait at least 20 to 30 minutes. After your wait, head to where you shot at the deer. Look for signs of a hit: deer hair or blood. Check your arrow. If you see partially digested food at the site, wait (rifle hunters, at least an hour; archers, three hours). Next, follow the blood trail, if there is one. If not, slowly move toward the place where you last saw the deer. Check for sign along the way. A deer hit solidly in the chest cavity rarely goes more than a couple hundred yards. Those hit in the paunch may go further, depending upon whether they're pushed or the amount of vegetative cover in the area."

Last night at First Friday, I was yelled at by an acquaintance. "You are all a bunch of nut cases," she screamed. It is so ugly here.

If folks feel that there is some confusion with the message on the signs, they can go to Rolliers and buy "No Hunting" signs and post them in their yards. I'm not sure if John still works in the paint department, but based on Kristen Linfante's recommendation, he would be able to suggest soothing colors to paint the basement, if folks choose to live there during hunting season.

One more comment from me for now. A woman came up to our table at First Friday to say that her daughter in Philadelphia has Lyme Disease, so we need to kill the deer here.

I just got the tentative schedule of events from MMS for the first month of the new school year, beginning Monday, August 31. The annual "open house" is scheduled for mid-September. Each Mt Lebo school holds an open house around the same time. Here is a thought. Let's suggest that the muni presents "Meet the Archers" at every school's open house. I volunteer to bring the beef jerky snacks.

Hi Lena,

That would have been a great suggestion at the public outreach and citizen engagement meeting this morning. Much of the topic of conversation was on ideas on how to do a better job/improve on reaching out and engaging with the public. Some of the ideas were just that, meet and greets.

Yes, it would have been a great suggestion at the public outreach and citizen engagement meeting this morning, but as you know, Nick, citizens were not permitted to engage during the citizen engagement meeting.

We could be seeing tree stands as ealy as four weeks from today, Elaine. "But tree stands can't be hung more than two weeks before any deer season opens, and they must be pulled within two weeks after the close of the last deer season."
