How about this teachable moment?

At Jody Maddock's recruiting meeting, someone asked about the impact of killing in front of children. Mr. Maddock said that we are at the top of the food chain and that if children see a dead deer during the archery season, it would be a "teaching moment." In talking with other members of the community, we find this offensive.

One Mt. Lebanon resident, taking Maddock's suggestion to the extreme, said that if we want teachable moments, why don't we just take our kids to Rockview, a Pennsylvania Department of Corrections prison ironically located in Benner Township so that they can witness an execution.

I placed another order of yard signs yesterday since the supply is dwindling. If you have a sign, thank you! Plant it in your yards, if you haven't already. When, not if, people ask you how to get one, you may give them my email address, EGillen476@aol.com.

Mt. Lebanon Commissioners will host archers in our golf course and public parks for five months starting September 19. Some Mt. Lebanon residents will be using their yards as killing fields. To avoid any confusion, these signs are available for your yards with a $5 donation.

Speaking of signs, remember this at the entrances to our parks?

Or this one at the golf course?

Mt. Lebanon will be posting new warning signs during the next five months. Private residents who are volunteering their properties to kill deer, will not.

I had a long conversation with a neighbor Tuesday evening. I hadn't spoken with her in a while, but I wave as she walks by my house almost daily. She stopped to ask me about my "Not I My Yard" signs. I explained to her what the municipality is planning with archery and perhaps sharpshooting. She was appalled. And, she is afraid for herself and mostly for the children in Mt. Lebanon. She walks all the time, but said that she will stop walking if the killing begins.

This resident is also very concerned that the value of her (exquisite) home will decrease as a result of these unnecessary municipal deer kills. She has Hosta. While the deer have hardly touched it this year, she doesn't care if they do. "It's a plant," she said. You don't kill over a silly plant.

Finally, and with respect to children and adults, she is frightened that the deer killing will have a negative impact on citizens' mental health. I couldn't agree more.

She is looking to place her house on the market. She wants out of Mt. Lebanon, after living here for many, many years. She thinks our government has gone insane.

If my tax dollars are funding archery kills on private property, the muni must tell me the location of those private properties.

Technically, our tax dollars are not funding the archery kills on private property. The archers are volunteering their time, even though their compensation will be two dead deer. They must donate every third deer killed to "charity" or some virtual church in N. Huntingdon as Benner did in the spring.

Our tax dollars are paying White Buffalo to screen archers. They are also creating a database of killing fields. Their hope is to create a sustainable network in perpetuity.

It doesn't matter if the archers are doing this for dead deer and beer. It is a municipal sponsored program. Just because the program has volunteers makes no difference. It is a government program. Period.

Excellent point. And it is being promoted on the municipal website by municipal employees.

There is no question about it. The deer kill is a muni government program.

Darby O'Gill has spent a ton of taxpayers' dollars on this killing spree. Same with the rest of the staff. Who arranges and promotes the "informational" meetings?

Anyone know the time stamp for the teachable moment comment? Was that the first or second mtg?

Second meeting. 01:07:55 time stamp.

Are they alienating people from the parks so there is less of a protest when they change their use? $$ Long term planning Lebo style.
