Timmy's getting what? Are they f-ing crazy? UPDATED 4 TIMES

I'm sorry for the offensive title, but I really wanted to say something else. Our illustrious school board has decided to amend Super Timmy's contract as well as award him a [please sit down for this] a $20,000 merit bonus as well as increasing his salary this year to $194,779. Agenda is here.

This is the man who wouldn't speak up for the safety of our children when Mt. Lebanon decided to have hired killers start shooting at 4 pm, one half hour after elementary school children were dismissed. Here is his letter to parents. Live from Mt. Lebanon, it's Dr. Timmy.  When he was notified of shooting along safe walking routes, where was Timmy? There will be shooting on properties that are on safe walking routes.  He didn't even mind Tony DeNicola baiting on school property. Parents, here's a comforting thought

Where was Timmy when liquor licenses were being transferred very close to Lincoln School?
School District to Blame! Was Commissioners do as they please. Again. UPDATED 3 TIMES

I don't see Timmy objecting to adding toxic turf on school property. https://lebocitizens.blogspot.com/2016/02/feds-finally-take-action-on-crumb.html

Tim was never a superintendent before he was hired here, yet he makes more than the superintendent of Upper St. Clair who was voted PA Superintendent of the Year, as well as voluntarily freezing his salary and declined pay raises.

What a kick in the teeth, right after receiving our increased school taxes in the mail...TWICE...because they got the dates wrong the first time. They were sure to get the correct amounts, however.

My question to you, Timmy is What did you do today to improve the life of a child?

Update June 14, 2016 3:41 PM Evidently, the school board hired Timmy for his expertise in construction projects, not as an educator.  Mt. Lebanon School Board eyes raise for superintendent

Update June 14, 2016 9:51 PM Probably the biggest reason Timmy doesn't deserve a bonus is in my post, Despicable Updated 3X Here is the link to the docket where the defendants are Mt. Lebanon School District, John Grogan, and Brian Begor.

Update June 15, 2016 4:32 PM Mt. Lebanon resident, Bill Matthews has a letter to the editor in this week's edition of The Almanac. Superintendent's salary increase questioned I have not been able to find it online. Bill also spoke on this subject at Monday's school board meeting.

Whoa. That's some heavy bucks. Timmy started at Mt. Lebanon in 2008,I think. Does anyone know his salary at the time of his hiring? I seem to recall that it was around $130,000. I might be wrong about that. But I know it was NOWHERE near his new salary (plus bonus).

You're close, Lena. Timmy started at $140,000 in 2009. Mt. Lebanon school board extends superintendent's contract

According to my calculator, Timmy's base salary has increased 39% over seven years. Throw in his $20,000 merit bonus, my trusty calculator shows that Timmy's pay has increased 53.4% since he was hired seven years ago. Keep taking $750,000 out of the Fund Balance, Boys and Girls, while telling us that you reduced the budget by $592,000. Budget Information

I better get back to my sewing to keep me out of trouble. This is infuriating to me.

OK, so he started seven years ago at $140,000. Seven years later, he is making
over $200,000? Nobody gets those kind of raises in that time span while working in the same position at the same employer. That is nuts. Something is very wrong in the Mt. Lebanon School District. No surprise there.

For some additional perspective, consider the following:
$140,000 in 2009 had the same buying power as $156,134.09 has today (source: Bureau of Labor Statistics). This represents a 12% inflation rate; or to put it another way, your money has lost 12% of its buying power over the last seven or so years. Dr. Steinhauer is getting $194,779. This represents a 39% increase over his 2009 salary (not counting the bonus - I'm doing salary to salary comparisons). Discounting the inflation rate, his real rate of increase is 27%. How many of you got a 27% increase in income over the last seven years?

There are 33,137 people living in Mt. Lebanon, according to the 2010 census (it's likely a little more now). Using that figure, Dr. S's new salary represents a $5.88 per capita tax on every man, woman, and child in the community. Doesn't sound like much, does it? And doesn't Dr. S pay taxes, too? Yes he does; in a way. And all those resident Mt. Lebanon school teachers, administrators, municipal officials and workers theoretically pay Mt. Lebanon taxes as well. But civil servants can't both pay taxes and salaries to themselves! It's only producers who actually pay taxes. The civil servant who "pays" real estate tax and EIT out of his or her tax funded salary is simply shifting tax money from one account to another. So that $5.88 per capita tax is really an illusion. If you're a private wage earner or business owner you are probably well aware of who really pays the freight in this village.

By the way, if you're one of those people who object to this kind of analysis on the grounds that a lot of Mt. Lebanon residents are state or federal employees, or work for non-profits, and therefore bring in outside tax dollars into the community, may I remind you that what is true on the micro level is also true on the macro level - which is why our national debt is currently $19.284 TRILLION dollars, and our state debt is $136 BILLION dollars - and both debts are rising. Only PRODUCERS create tax revenue.

According to the PSERS website, it appears that Timmy's merit bonus is not considered to be retirement-covered compensation. At least I hope not! Employers' Reference Manual Chapter Eight - Public School Employees’ Retirement System

I wonder how much USC's and South Fayette's supers get paid?

Timmy isn't even an educator. He's a horn player. And I bet he sucked at that, too.

Lebo Citizens said...

Lena, I see that USC's O'Toole is making $160,000. His contract is through June 30, 2018. The South Fayette super is earning $151,128. Timmy is the highest paid. That is why he is known as Super Timmy. But the school board believes Super Timmy deserves even more. He is just THAT good.

In the "You Think You've Got Problems" department, be glad you don't live in the Abington School District of Montgomery County: "Pa.'s top-paid school super - at $300,000-plus - gets raise". (And she can't even play a trombone!)

Unknown said...

RG and Elaine---Thanks for the information on nearby and Eastern PA school districts' supers' salaries. $300,000 doesn't go nearly as far in Montgomery County, PA as it does in the Pittsburgh region. Also, South Fayette is the No.1 school district in this region and that super is making around $65,000 a year less than Super Timmy. And I see that the USC school super needs to blow his own horn much more in order to catch up with Tim.
Tim's salary/bonus is outrageous.

Lebowitz must in line for a huge promotion:

“The primary impetus for the bonus is the excellent work he has done leading our construction project over these many years,” said Lebowitz. “All of that was going on while he was leading the district to new heights and reaching new levels of academic excellence. Our kids have been performing extremely well at all levels, whether it is at the high school, middle schools or elementary schools."

I love the Bob the Builder/Timmy the Builder pictures. I don't think Bob gets paid as much as Tim.

Please allow me to say one more time that Timmy's salary/bonus is egregious. It is Mt. Lebanon at its worst. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse....

Has the Superintendent received an employment offer from another school district with a salary which exceeds his Mt. Lebanon salary? That could be a reason for the extraordinary salary proposal by the School Board. There apparently is no other rational reason.

Lena,

Your opinion of Tim aside...saying he isn't an educator because he was a musician degrades every single music educator who has the same Bachelor of Science degree in Education that he has. Say what you want about his merits within his current job, but please keep the opinion cannon on a tight spread rather than implying a whole group of trained professionals "aren't educators". That's highly offensive to people who put their entire lives into that profession.
